I use my M-60's as fronts in my music/HT set up. My room size is 22x 15 that has an opening to another area equal in size. My question is how far apart to space these speakers resting aside a Tosh 57 RPTV ? I had them very close to my tv and towed in a bit. I recently tried them further apart from the set at approx 20-22". Imaging and soundstage sound much better. I also have the 175 sub on the right side between the right speaker and tv. Still working on sub placement.

Sounds like you've answered your own question. They should be far enough apart so that they sound best.

Sorry for the wise-ass answer, but it honestly sounds like you've already found your "sweet spot".

FYI, the textbook starting point for the front L/R speakers is to place them so that they "include an angle of from 45 to 60 degrees... Use the narrower angle if you mostly watch movies, and the wider angle if you mostly listen to music."

CD, as always, experiment a little, but in general the speakers should be separated as much as your distance is from them, or just a bit less. They should be toed in so that the tweeters point to your ears. The best location for the sub is likely to be in the corner behind the speakers which is farthest from a doorway or other large opening.

John, I agree with you about the Sub placement. In fact, that's exactly how I have mine positioned. But get a load of this.

Russ Herschelmann the "Home Theater Architect" from Stereo Guide to Home Theater recommends(Feb 03 issue): As for subwoofers, buy two. Place them not in the corners of your room but against oppisite walls-one at half the width and one at half the length of your room. If you can, raise them off the ground on a shelf so the center of the woofer cone sits exactly midway between ceiling and floor. Your bass response will be much smoother and have more impact.

I've gotta' run now - must place order for another HSU VTF-3 and then I'm off to Home Depot for those giant "sub shelfs", then I'll have to think of a good story to tell the wife and then......

In my experience, pointing the tweeters directly at my ears collapses the soundstage more than I'd like. When I arrange my M22s so that they point about halfway between directly at my ears and directly at the back wall I find it gives the best effect.

Me too. My M60s are barely toed in at all.

My M60s have only been toed-in for positions in which i could not form a relatively Golden Ratio triangle with them. It certainly helps.
