Sorry, but I'm really new to speakers and have purchased a pair of Axiom ti22's. I'm looking for a reciever them. I want them to play music cd's and DVD's hooked up to a TV. I also want to be able to expand to a sub and possibly a 4.1. I have no equipment except the Axiom speakers. I will still need all other accecories, including wires. Recommendations would be greatly apprieciated, so feel free to chip in. I don't want to spend a whole lot of money either, so this is a crucial deciosion on what to buy. Thanks for all your help, for I have looked on other threads and the site is great.

an estimate of what you were thiking of spending would be helpfull since there is a vast array of products out there at different prices.

Probably around 500. I know its not much to work with, but I can be flexible.

I'd consider checking your local papers for used equipment. If you prefer new, I think one of the best buys around is the Panasonic line of receivers. You could probably find a used SADX 930-1050 (excellent sound, but run a bit warm, so leave some room for circulating air to cool the receiver) and a sub for about $250. If you can find a Merak MC6H (between $30-60) you'll have a terrific Axiom made center channel speaker. Check out audio asylum reviews and discussions, the audiokarma discussion site, and educate yourself about what folks like and don't like.

If you go used, you can probably get a decent receiver, center, sub and even a couple of extra speakers for your side surrounds for about $500.

One thing for sure, you'll love your Axioms!

www.audiogon.com is a great place to look for used equipment as well.

You won't get far at audiogon with $500 to spend. That's what a decent pair of IC's cost on audiogon. Audiogon is a site for high end audio equipment not for HT afficianado's. I'd stick with ebay or ubid for a HT receiver.

You can get the Yamaha RX-V1400 receiver for a little over US$600 -- it is an excellent value, especially with the YPAO auto-calibration/room EQ feature.

What about the Yamaha 1300? Is it a good reciever?

The 1300 is definitely a good receiver. I would only trade mine for a 1400/2400!!

What about the PANASONIC SA-HE100? I like the price on that much better.

I think the Panasonic surround receivers are terrific and a steal for the prices you can find them at. They run a bit warm, so leave space for circulation. In my opinion, they are very musical for a surround receiver. Also powerful. I had an SADX 940 for a while, rated at 5x100 watts. I have a Sony STRDB1070 rated at 6x100 watts. All I can say is, Panasonic watts are MUCH BIGGER than Sony watts. I'd say the Panny was about twice as powerful per channel as the Sony despite their ratings.
