hi Alan,

I was reading this on a previous post. you wrote:

Some receivers, like the one you're considering, let you choose the frequency of the low-pass filter. 80 Hz is a good place to start. If you set it much higher--over 100 Hz, for example--you risk running bass frequencies into your sub that are directional, and you don't want that under any circumstances. The sub should NOT call attention to itself.

So, does this mean for people who cannot set the crossover frequency on their line level sub out, they should set their axiom sub at the highest frequency level, or at around 80?

Hi Ravi,
Assuming your A/V receiver's line-level subwoofer output has a fixed crossover (low-pass filter) at about 80 Hz, you set the subwoofer's variable crossover at its highest setting (120 or 150 Hz, whatever the range is) to avoid the "cascading" of two crossovers. Then, if you need to, gradually adjust the frequency of the subwoofer's control downward to achieve a smooth blend between the sub and the mains with no audible "holes" in the bass. That's the ideal, but feel free to experiment with different subwoofer crossover settings. I certainly do with my subwoofer.
