Maybe a silly question, but it appears that one is somehow able to set the mood of the smiley face next to your name... Happy, sad, tired, etc. I understand the online/offline distinction, but not the rest...

Is this something you set somewhere in preferences or what determines what icon shows next to your name?

At the top right of the window, where it reads "Welcome myrison. [Log out]", click the image just to the right of that to get a pop-up window, then make a selection.
