I watched the Happening last night, for me there is nothing positive I can say about this film, as one critic said, "You feel like you're not watching the end of the world but the end of a career."

Oh, I finally watched Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull yesterday. I guess ruining Star Wars wasn't enough for George Lucas? I mean, it wasn't just his project, but I'm sure he was the weakest link among those with creative input. It's just hard to believe that after all of the false starts that that was the screenplay everyone decided they were happy with.

Oh my gosh, I was JUST going to mention this movie as well! It was so bad, it was hard to take seriously. I couldn't decide if it was *meant* to be funny (in the stupid sense) or if they actually wanted to scare us. Either way, it failed. But afterwards, my friend & I entertained ourselves by making fun of all the bad parts which resulted in hysterical laughter. I guess for that reason alone, it was worth suffering through.

Uh oh. I did want to see "The Happening," but now I think I'll skip over it. I really enjoyed "The Sixth Sense," "Unbreakable," and "Signs," but I haven't seen his last three movies.

I still have mixed emotions about this movie. I want to see it just because it's Indiana Jones, but then I don't because I really don't want to be disappointed.

I left the theater underwhelmed at what I had seen. I really wanted to love Indy 4 but couldn't. Perhaps I was distracted by all the popcorn/candy crunching, soda slurping, cellphone ringing, kids groaning type of stuff...which made it harder to concentrate instead of just having a good time and losing myself in the movie. Maybe a second viewing(dvd) in a quiet home will change my perspective. Or, maybe not... ;\)

The Happening was a great idea for a story that 'might', I say again, "MIGHT" have impressed us had it come out 25 years ago. Back then it took a lot less to shock us at the theaters. By todays standards, it was a total yawn fest. Although it had a lot of other problems dragging it down as well.

I see this as the problem with a lot of action or intense drama movies these days. To be fresh or even have a chance of holding our interest, everything has to be super over the top and it's just really getting tough to get there. Some who strive for it, end up creating something very cheesy because they spent to much time on being bigger and more spectacular, that they paid no attention to the screenplay itself. Case in point, Indiana Jones or just about anything new by George Lucas.

With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.

I had doubts about "The Happening" when its tag line was M. Night's first "R" rated movie. I mean, really, is that the only selling point?

The Happening was not happening for me. I gave it a grade of Zzzzzz.
