I dunno. When the real Dick Winters, at the end of the series, tells about answering his grandson's question "Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?" by saying "No... but I served in a company of heroes" I tend to break down a little (OK! OK! I turn into a blubbering mess ). Of course, I'm a student of World War II (and a Vietnam vet) so I think I understand, a bit better than the average joe, the incredible sacrifice those men made. I am awed by what they endured and by what they accomplished.

Even Aussies like us are big fans of that series. My Dad was in the RAF flying Lancasters during the last stages of the WWII in Europe. He then emmigrated to Australia became an instructor at the RAAF parchute school in the 1950s. He was in Vietnam in 67 (in a desk job), and was "volunteered" by his CO to do a training jump with the US 101st Airborne. He was a bit rusty, and the US equipment was different, but he survived \:\)

We're also fans of Damien Lewis, the British actor who played Winters. He is currently playing an American cop in a series called "Life". I can recommend it.

My sister's watching that show because of Damien Lewis's Band of Brothers role. I have to admit he was pretty badass. I may have to check Life out, but after it's on disc so I can watch from the beginning.

CV, I gather from your blog that you are participating in the (Inter)national Novel Writing Month - so is my son. He's writing a draft of his second fantasy novel.

My hat is off to him. I actually gave up really early. I wonder how far Sean got.

I have ideas for a fantasy (or fairy tale) novel, but I can't seem to write anything good when I sit down to write it. How'd your son's first novel go? I admire anyone who can force themselves to write a novel.

Hey, that's cool, Shane. How is your son doing on the novel?

CV, I gave up shortly after you. Work has been killing me and I've had no energy to plug away at the writing. Very sad.
