Ok so i am in the new market for a bigger tv but i want to salvage my old entertainment center that i built about 8 years ago. i have come up to two ideas that work. one puts the tv on top and closer to the center speaker. the other puts the components on top wich seems better for little kids. here is a drawing of the old and the two new ideas. just thought i would see what others think. I didn't realize that the pic would be so tiny the components are left to right left...bluray, sub amp, cd center... pro,dvd right....amp

I'd personally go with layout #2 ... looks cleaner and with the monitor being that close to the CC the sound should be better.

Looks to me as if you could make it as a "modular" center section so that by simply inverting it you could switch from layout 1 to layout 2 depending on how the kids are reacting to the equipment. A bit more work but it does get you the best of both worlds. All else being equal I also favour layout 2. In case I wasn't clear about the "modular" portion it's the portion in red.

Another option if possible is to have option #1 with the centre channel below the TV, the best of both worlds (components out of the way and TV at a good height). Mel N.

Put down another vote from me for #2. Just looks better to me. The AV components together are physically and visually "heavier" than the TV, so I think they ought to go on the bottom. Just my opinion.

From what I have read it is generally recommended that the TV be placed so the center of the screen is at eye level. However, I would also go with layout 2. The sound positioning should be better and I don't think the extra height should be an issue, especially if you have a recliner.
