anybody see this?

Without a picture, I wonder if these are the newer version or the older TMTMWW array.

Wow, that's an incredible price. I didn't even know that there was an older (almost a D’Appolito array) revision - heh. I wonder why they changed that. D’Appolito arrays work so well if done right (almost make it seem like one large point source of sound rather than multiple smaller point sources, and also minimize cieling and floor reflections).

Edit: now that I think of it, although it is similar in appearance, I doubt that the crossover setup has something that would even be plausible in a D'Appolito array (I believe they have to be only odd-order crossovers for the limiting of vertical dispersion), but it could still provide a larger single sound source.

What's your major at JHU, if you don't mind me asking -- or are you a grad student?

With an eye and mind for details and inner workings, I'd wager somewhere in the sciences -- or business. Hmmm....

I'm just a lowly neuroscientist - sadly I don't get to play with speakers and the like in my research. But at least my concentration within my neuroscience major is systems, a topic that interests me greatly, as systems are networks and how they work in relation to eachother in the nervous system from the cellular level to the central and peripheral nervous systems. Heh, right now, I'm working on a rather large paper for a systems class that involves researching a topic of choice, mine being Bird-Song (in song-birds, the only type of bird that 'learns' how to sing instead of it being inherited).

I'm really inclined to double major, and if I do, it will most likely be in Electrical Engineering (although I'd probably pull all of my hair out if I did, as that is a tough field).

Heh - at JHU basically EVERYONE is in the sciences because of the draw factor of arguably the nation's best Med-School (BAH at harvard, as they change places between 1st and 2nd all the time) brings and the ability to do as much research and internship there as you can fit in (provided you meet certain qualifications).

DJ, my first set of M80's had the TMTMWW array. According to Joe at Axiom, they felt there was something "not quite right" with that layout. Upon further investigation in the lab, their suspicions were confirmed, so they changed it.

I couldn't be happier with my current M80's, and the TTMMWW layout. I did hear a difference when I switched to the new ones, but for 1/2 price on e-bay...........

What exactly was wrong with that configuration? Did it have to do with off axis performance?

Heh - 550 on EBAY not a bad deal at all!

Where did you see the driver array? I couldn't get a pic. That is why I was wondering which it was. On another note, the old array was rated at 98db efficiency with a frequency response of 28-22K...why the difference? I have an older product brochure, and all the speakers in it have better specs. The VP-150 with the MTMTM array was listed as 4 ohms instead of 6 ohms, with a sensitivity of 98db and a FR of 50-22k. The QS-8 was also listed at 4 ohms, efficiency was 95db (same as current model), and the FR was listed as 60-22k.

Are the ratings just more conservative? Did drivers or crossovers change? Did they change the way they rate them (+-3db instead of =3,-6db), or what?

Hah, I find this very funny... No, not that they havn't paid, but I just saw that movie last week - so funny; yet pretty serious at times. Just an overall nice flick.

Name that movie (and as proof name the language that movie is in ) and I'll give ya a cookie. It's pretty obvious anyhow from the name.

Heh, then go to your local Korean movie place and rent it . It's a REALLY good movie, aside from some parts which are just plain silly. It combines it all, but in a way that is cool (my only gripe is her stories that he reads where she makes a fantasy dream-like scene and it gets too 'Matrixy').
