For all those looking to jump in and explain to me why (or more likely just “that”) the wire does not matter, I'll attach my education on this matter as supplied by JohnK some time back. It's intense reading, but has what you need to understand some of the myth in the industry: A Master's Degree in Wire . Later I will attach results of my test on wire replacements where I hooked my amp up to my kids toes and plugged their fingers in the speakers. I was surprised by the results! This last one is less exact, but interesting (and also from JohnK) but look in the contents for the right pages: http://www.theaudiocritic.com/back_issues/The_Audio_Critic_24_r.pdf.
...But I'm sorry, sound our no sound, that silver stuff is not copper, unless Home Depot has an alchemy department.

It is copper that has a silver coating. It makes it easy to keep the polarity straight, it is not rocket science.

I hear you. Cut it. Do you see copper inside the strands? Not on mine, so it is not copper painted silver. And it is not actually silver on top of copper. So what is that silver wire made of? I say it aint copper. Not that it matters, but short of alchemy it aint copper.
"Place your bets, place your bets!" I say tin, lead or aluminum or the most likely choices. Tin is my bet - just to piss people with "tin ears" off. ;\)

I change my bet, now I say: "NICKEL SILVER": Not silver at all, except in color, for this alloy contains no silver, but is mostly copper (about 60%), with approximately equal parts of nickel and zinc added. With the addition of a small percentage of tin, the alloy is then called Alpaca. This alloy was first used in the mid-1800s by the Germans as a silver substitute.

Sounds like the stuff.

and now for something a bit different (not totally)...

thanx for the hint about second hand units, i'm searching ebay on denon and rotel and amazing (at least they seem awesome units) deals may come in hand, even with postage to portugal. so that will be more or less solved.

but considering i'm buying a rega p1 or p2, and seeing that rega rs3 speakers are more or less the same price as the m60's, would it be wise to consider this or the m60's will be my best bet when comparing with rega's speakers? any feedback on this speakers guys, i mean rega one's?

thank you very much.

I have never heard Rega Speakers and their web site, nor any reviews I have found online, show any frequency response curves or testing, making even a guesstimate hard as to the difference in sound between the M60 and RS3. I can tell you that the M60 has a sound similar to Paradigm speakers, something along the Studio line, Studio 60's,IIRC, so if you have a Paradigm dealer nearby you might be able to listen to a set of Paradigms to get an idea of what Axiom has to offer. I suspect from the number of drivers and such the RS3's might sound similar to the M50s, but this is pure speculation.

I never trust companies trying out a new market. Rega is famous for its electronics (CD players, etc), not speakers (to my knowledge). For my hard earned money, I would go with a well established company every time, unless you just like risk. I'm not saying just Axiom, but there are lots of speakers with long histories to rely on. Electronic companies always "make" speakers. But they normally suck, because it is not their market - e.g., Sony speakers, Yamaha speakers, Denon speakers, etc., etc. They are just slapping a proven name on box from China. There are no efficiencies of scale, no trickle down of technology, etc. You just don’t get what you pay for.

"Offshore"? I mean technically the volcano that the crystals come from is an island, so yes, they come from "offshore". Now the priest that does all the chanting to bring them to the surface is from Jersey, if that helps you any?
