Thanks for the info. I hadn’t prioritized them I have soooo many other things to watch and they hadn’t given me a good vibe. I liked the animated Star Trek series so I had hopes for this one but I’ll probably push it back.

I just have to say that I hate the Hannah Barbara animation style that most of these cartoons have. Drives me up the wall how bad the art is.

Another thing to endear myself to others of my age and younger: I don't like the anime style either. What, are they too cheap to use more than 10 frames per second with half of them being repeats of the previous ones?

Yes, they are. The reason they're animating so much in the first place is to save money over live action.

Good point! IMO the bulk of the effort goes into the stories and characters (something Hollywood misses on a lot) rather than just visual production “value.“

I hated the Anime style so much that I refused to watch any for about 35 years until someone insisted that I watch “Cowboy Bebop.” That’s when I thought duh, it’s the story and the character interaction that matter. Funny because I’ve always loved radio dramas and audio books.

Some directors/producers have been trying to upgrade to CGI graphics but many anime fans don’t like it. So you end up with hybrids like Appleseed and Vandread where much of the backgrounds are CGI but the characters are still anime style. Also in more recently produced anime frame rates are better.

One of the best things I like about anime being made or updated (English tracks) today is that they often put a lot of effort into the 5.1 soundtracks with the resulting surround sound often better than most movies. Also, even though anime has it’s motifs for me they are a refreshing change from Hollywood.

Watched Burn After Reading last night. I'm not a huge Coen brothers fan but this one was not so far off the wall that I couldn't enjoy it. Absolutely FABULOUS performances by Clooney, Pitt, and McDormand. Malkovich was equally nutso but, with him, you can't tell if it's a performance or if he's just being himself.

Missed the season opener for Battlestar Galactica. Watched number two last night but still don't know who the 5th Cylon is cause they skipped around it in the 2nd.

Went to the official websight to watch the first episode but the 'not allowed to stream any content outside the US border' rule struck yet again.

I understand though, you don't us Canadian's copying any of that Cylon technology from the show or we might create an army of cyborg Celine Dions. Now that's a cold war weapon no one would dare invoke.

I guess I must have missed the ones with good characters. I keep seeing the ones with the stereotypes--the schoolgirls with extraordinarily short skirts and a severe lack of morals, the dirty old men which turn into chibi with disturbing regularity, and the fight scenes which consist entirely of colored backgrounds and people jumping past each other.

Yes, I saw Akira. But it was a very long time ago, with far too much Ranma 1/2 in the intervening years.

I'm happy to hear at least a couple of my Axiomite friends enjoyed The Fall! \:\)

Now you see what I meant about the visuals. ;\)

At first I was thinking, "What version of Battlestar Galactica" are you freaking watching?" Then I realized you were referring to an earlier post than mine.

Heh... yeah, you know the one where Starbuck's wearing the little blue skirt?

Just finished Season 2.5 Saturday night. Wow... they really stood things on their head with that one.
