The vote at our house? Awful.

Perhaps I'm getting cynical in my old age (31), but it seems they get worse and worse every year. The group at my house couldn't come up with a single one that was 'great'. The best we could do was 'unoffensive'. I think the fetching Clydesdale got a 'cute' vote. At least the Budweiser ones weren't blatantly offensive. We liked the previews for 'Aliens vs. Monsters' and 'Up', but those were more because the movies themselves looked cute, rather than for any sort of amazing commercial value.

But absolutely nothing stands out as a 'good' commercial, or at least something memorable. The opinion at our house was that the commercials were a spectacular waste of 250+ million dollars (and that's just for the time, nevermind the production costs). I know that times are tough, but we just can't figure out why the companies that did buy time even bothered.

Did you have any favorites? Did I somehow miss a good one?

The Dorito's commercials got a lot of laughs with my friends. I agree with you, I was expecting better.

We liked the Coke Zero commercia. Pepsi's were so much better than the Coke ones.

I never expect much from the superbowl commericals especially in this state of the economy where companies in tough times cut back and invest less time and resources into advertising. A lot of companies dropped out all together in superbowl advertisment.

It didn't look any better to this 43 year old. I thought to myself, is this the best that our ad agencies can do? Also, why would Danica Patrick get affiliated with GoDaddy.com? The Pepsi MacGruber thing was also really horrible.

Danica Patrick would be affiliated with Godaddy.com because they're her primary sponsor. Minor details.

We'll see if she's gotten any more mature this season, but as of last season, I'm not exactly a fan. Maybe it wasn't someone else's fault that you screwed up, Danica! Naah... it's always the other driver, or her pit crew (never insult your pit crew, moron), or the rules, or the track, or....

Such a smack you are gonna get.

Actually, we "really old" folks learned, a long time ago, that when commercials come on, you can actually push a button and temporarily watch something that isn't trying to sell you drinks or tires or other things in which you have no interest. The few SB commercials I DID happen to see didn't make much of an impression on me. Although, I do remember having a general feeling that good taste and wit no longer are a factor in our society.

No, that's coincidental.

I'm a big Jason Statham fan, so the Audi commercial he did was pretty funny. I thought it was very well done with lots of nice references, but it really helped if you knew his movies.

Reminds me of philosophy class. Not causal, coincidental. For example:

Bug spray causes drownings!

1. Sales of bug spray go up in the summer
2. Drownings go up in the summer
3. Bug spray causes drownings!

+1 for Rich.

I had sort of forgotten about that one. But yes, that commercial wasn't too bad. I do remember chuckling at the look he gives the Lexus.

I'm with you Ken, for some reason I just can't get into a whiny woman race car driver who really believes she's the hottest thing since sliced bread ... and the media really hypes her.

I thought the Doritos was the best commercial last night, overall they all pretty much sucked though.

Well, you have to admit, she is good. She's just not consistent. I have high hopes for Ana Beatriz (last year in Indy Lights). Of course, Target Chip Ganassi will probably be impossible to beat this year, but at least they dumped Dan Whatshisname.

JP that reminds me of that last lap/last turn bonsai move Carl Edwards made on Jimmie Johnson during one of the last races of the year, went in waaay too fast going into the turn, slid up and slapped the wall on the exit of the turn, he finished second to Johnson and during the interview he says "Well it worked great whenever I tried it on the game!"

I guess I'm one of the few who actually didn't watch the game, it was sunny out and we took the kids to the park then out for dinner. I did record it but seriously doubt if I'll ever get around to watching it.

Nope he wasn't joking at all Ken, several of the younger NASCAR drivers utilize the games as a racing simulator. Dale Earnhardt Jr does a lot of online gaming and I've spoke with a couple of folks who have raced against him, he kicks butt ... just as he should.

NASCAR drivers and gaming article.

Isn't that wild.

Then they need to get better games...

Actually, that's pretty much what I figured. But if the sim tells them the wrong thing, it's worse than useless.

As far as EA Sports NASCAR games go I think the game itself is fine, it seems to be the controllers that suck, at least ours does. Those drivers have the high dollar fun stuff that would probably be a little closer to driving the real deal than the push button controllers that most folks use ... it only takes money. \:\(

Ah! Good reason I suppose. You exposed me as an outsider to racing. I used to love racing years ago but stopped watching it when the CART / USAC split happened. I have always thought that Godaddy.com's commercials were tasteless.

I've never watched one of them except in fast forward. BTW, they've reconsolidated into Indycar. Sadly, that means they're using the Indycars. I'm looking forward to the redesign in what, 2 years?

I used to keep up with the CART series but like David I quit whenever Tony George made the split, went to a couple of the first IRL races at the Disney World one mile track and enjoyed them but not as much as the CART races in Miami, I never knew who the drivers were and didn't keep up after that except for watching one every now and then on TV.

NASCAR was a different story. Back in the 80s and 90s myself along with a couple of buds used to load up my airplane and hit several races a year ... we met a lot of the owners, drivers and team members by flying in like that, it was fun. \:\)

I know nothing of who's who in racing but saw her interviewed over the weekend and she seems to have a personality to match her good looks and her talent.

As for the folks getting picked on because of their age, just remember. It's not called "grey hair" it's called "Artic Blonde".

I'd like to see an organized challenge each year, set up at the Nurburgring, say maybe a whole weekend/or week in June to coincide with 24 hrs Lemans/Goodwood Festival of Speed. Have various categories set up for different entries. They could spend a few days or weeks whittling the challengers down before the final runs. That would be something!!

Oh, I doubt they'll ever do more official races there. Too dangerous. But yeah, that would be cool.

Has anyone gotten the Le Mans overview DVDs? I've got them on my netflix queue, but the latest ones are reviewed as not very good.

I know, they don't publicize the many deaths that occur on that track each year (I understood there have been a lot of m-bike fatalities). It's unknown how many fatalities there actually are, because they don't necessarily count deaths unless they happen at the scene (not on the way/or in hospital).

Yep, I remember watching that race and I was awestruck to say the least.

He walked away....

Apparently I should of been driving a car at those speeds rather than a bike at 1 km/h LOL

Probably because she races real cars, "Indy".

Sorry, couldn't resist. Please don't kill me.....

Sez she's in Indy Lights, bub... ;\)

Also, I watch several different forms of racing, Indycar's just the easiest one to see on basic cable.

I also watch ALMS (when possible), F1, and whatever rallycar stuff they're doing on ESPN. I've never been able to get into NASCAR.

Me too, I like the Prototypes (Lemans) the best though, or the more grass roots sportscar racing like GT2, similar to what you can buy for the street. Speedvision (now SpeedTV) used to be a great station years ago, but I don't bother with it anymore.

That's what I've heard. Just wish there was somewhere else to watch ALMS and F1.

Sometimes the big networks pick up some of the major races. In Canada, though, you can get all the F1 races, I can't remember whether TSN or CBC carries them. I can't watch oval track racing of any kind, it's too repetitive for me and way to many cautions. I'm dissappointed with SpeedTV because they're not showing SO much good racing... European Lemans Series(they have many more races than just Lemans), 24 hrs Nurburgring, DTM racing, Porsche Supercup, Isle of Man TT, Rally, ect. They sometimes summarize these races in a half hour show, weeks later. Not acceptable for a station calling themselves SpeedTV.

Away from the commercials.
I honestly know nothing of racing. Just found her to be a nice contrast from ego-racer.

Back to the commercials.
I don't remember any of the commercials. I was with about a dozen non football watchers in a hotel room so I tried to politely pay attention to them for a little bit during the commercials.

I think that brings us back to... Away from the commercials.
