hello new to the forum.looking to hear why you choose axiom over other brands in the same price range.i just replaced an old rack system with yamaha receiver and gave away my older cerwin vega at12s. i bought a pair of small orb speakers and sub but even though they are crystal clear and the bass from the sub is awesome i feel like im missing someting and decided to go for a pair of floorstanding speakers and move the orbs to the rear when i hook it up to the tv. i have listened to b and w,psb,paradigm monitor and studio series. new kef iq 90's, klipsch and am trying to decide on a set real soon when i came across this web site. i listen to all music from metal to mainilow and everything in between depending on the mood. i like the volume up so im looking for something that can sound great at the lower and higher volumes. so can you chime in and tell me why you choose the axioms thanks

Well they sound great and for the $ are hard to beat. One reason I went with Axiom is I went to an audition to ensure I liked what I heard. I was favorably impressed and when I ordered a pair of M80s to check out in my living room I was blown away. Keep in mind they have a 30 day return policy, satisfaction guaranteed. I recommend you check out the thread "Hearing Things" on this forum and see if there is someone in your geographical area who is willing to audition the speakers you are interested in. I doubt you'll be sorry even if you order them "blind," so to speak, but it's a great relief to hear them first and not have to wonder. Then check out the Factory Outlet prices, you have to wait a bit more but they are 10% off with no appreciable blemishes that I have been able to notice.

JG, welcome. It's the performance/price ratio. Of the speakers that you mentioned, possibly the Paradigm Studios are the closest comparison(not everyone agrees, of course), but the Axioms are more reasonably priced.

My fav. speaker when I was shopping was the B&W 703. But I was brought up to value money. The Axiom M80's were a pretty close match to the 703, at least to my ears. But for half the price. I could easily live with the trade off (and so could my wife). Because B&W is still in business today, others don't agree with me and feel the extra money is worth the minimal sound improvment. Great for them. But John is right here, dollar for dollar, it's hard to beat the Axiom lineup.

Hello and welcome jg. I believe you'll find a general consensus here that Axiom offers primarily the following:

They offer an excellent product comparable to generally much more expensive competition, even excluding various discounts such as the HT and Factory outlet discounts.

You can trial the speakers for 30 days in your own home to make sure they are for you. If they're not, you may return them(you pay return shipping).

You can order your speakers in an endless number of custom finishes to your liking(see custom shop) at an additional cost.

Their staff is very knowledgeable/supportive and their customer service is quite exemplary. You'll also get a lot of support from the guys(and gals) on the forums here as well.

Thats exactly the way I felt about tthe M60/80 vs the Studio 60/100. Loads of value for the money.

Yup, value for the money. The biggest thing is to remember that Axiom follows the forward (what ever you want to call it) sonic signature, at least compared to many other brands, so you need to like this sound. It is very similar to Paradigm Studio series or Monitor 11's, less forward/bright than Klipsch, I think Focals are near the same sound, more so towards the mid and upper end of the line up(I need to hear some newer ones, it's been a few years) to have an appreciation for the sound you will receive from Axioms line up, at least the M22, M60, M80s.

thanks for the replies. i would be intersted in the m80s. is there much of a break in period with these and how far off the rear wall should they be placed for best sound. i will be calling the company with a few questions but wanted to hear from owners first. thanks again

There is no such thing as break in, and Axiom will tell you the same thing. It might take time for your brain to get used to the new sound, but the speakers don't break in, contrary to what some in the "break in" camp will tell you.

I would say to allow at least 4-6" of space behind the speakers to help the low freq's filter out of the bass ports.

I've had the M80's & EP350 for about a month now and have no regrets whatsoever.

The main reason I purchased them were the reviews. A read a specific review/post (I think craigsub) where the M80's were A/B blind tested against Energy Veritas 2.4i costing $2000.00 to $3500.00 and the M80's were actually preferred over the Energy Veritas 2.4i

After about 3 months of researching (I never auditioned the M80's) I had to take the plunge for the money, and I am so very happy. I think the true test for me was even after a month I am still surprised by the sound.

Also, after finally getting the EP350 placement figured out (for my room) I love it! The first time I watch a blue-ray movie (I think it was transformers) I was blown away.

My final choices were the Axioms, SVS towers, Focal, and B&W. I liked the Focals and B&W (B&W my favorite) and I decided I would audition an internet direct brand as well. I have an SVS sub so I looked there first. I also looked here and was sold on the QS8's. So I decided to audition them for 30 days. I'm now on day 270. Think I'll keep them :-)

To be honest, I think I liked the B&W a little more. But not $1000+ more.

So in the end, it was the sound, the design (QS8's), and the value that sold me. Give them a try. You get a month to decide.

My experience and purchase decision was the same as dewd’s except SVS towers weren’t in the mix.

I felt the Axioms were the best value of the speakers I listened to when making my purchase.
