I ran the Axiom wizard to find out what it would say the best 7.2 setup would be for my application.

It revealed pictures of two configurations. The second one is what I've pretty much decided on ...except it showed two center channel VP-150 speakers. How would I even hook that up on my Onkyo 7.1 receiver (TX-NR905) without going to a separate 2 channel amp?

Another question I had and figured I would throw it out there: If a person was to go to the ultimate Axiom configuration of 4 EP600s, how could that be setup with only one SW (pre) out on a receiver?

Hi Ghostmech,
I am currently waiting on my Axiom order, so am just an 'unofficial' member of the club so far. However to answer your questions (and I'll let the true experts correct me if I am wrong anywhere):

2 VP-150's - I read a review on the Axioms where they did just that with one mounted above and one below the video display. In the review I recall them saying they simply wired 2 pairs of speaker wire into the center channel output of the amp. I would check with an expert before going ahead with this type of configuration however.

Multiple subs - they get daisy chained together. So the LFE output from the receiver goes to sub #1, sub #2 gets its' feed from sub #1 etc...

Hope that helps.

Not a fan of 2 centers - too much cancellation. I believe it can be done, as others will attest, but certainly not easily.

You should use a y-splitter at the receiver to hook up 2 subs. Many subs have filters in their output.

Actually, I've used 2 centers in the past (my pre-Axiom setup long ago) and it worked rather well. I was young(er) and naive at the time, and just twisted both "positive" wires together and then both "negative" wires together and then just put the two (+) wires into the (+) post on the receiver, and then did the same with the (-) wires. Basically wiring them in parallel and taking two 8 ohm speakers and making the system push them as a single 4 ohm speaker. I don't even think that the receiver I had back then officially supported 4 ohm speakers, but it worked, and it sounded better than just the one center speaker. And that was with what I would call crappy speakers compared to the Axioms...

If I had the money (and the room above my screen) I would go with a second VP150 in my setup in a heartbeat. I've got a 104" screen and with something that size I would like to get rid of the slight "localization" of the center as being below the screen. I only notice it when I am thinking about it, so it isn't a huge problem, but it would be nice.

I had fears of cancellation as well until, long ago on this forum, I was told that it really wasn't a problem with the center channel.

As for the subs, the other posts are right on the mark. Just chain them all together or put in some "Y-Splitters" on the Sub Out of the receiver and run a line to each sub.

thanks for the inputs...

I suppose if you have a receiver/amp that can handle the load of two centers in parallel, it could be a viable setup. Maybe a bit of overkill for most though.

After watching Ian's video on multiple subs, it seems that 2 subs are the most optimum/price setup.

Many people use 2 centers and cancellation is not an issue. The benefit of one above/below the screen is that the dialog appears to come from the screen's vertical center. However, I've always used just 1 VP150 on my 10ft wide screen, slightly tilted upwards towards my ears and it works awesome. For me, I'd rather put the money towards something else.

I use the two center setup, one above and one below the screen and really like that over a single center ... I've tried both setups for long periods of time and have always chosen the two speaker setup.

I'm Wife is loaded so money wasn't a factor. \:\)

I'll have to try the two-center thing when I have that much disposable income again.

I’ve tried dual centers, M22s, and found that they worked just fine as long as their tweeters weren’t placed to close together (a few of inches apart). But I agree with Randy that you could better use the money for something else. If down the road you feel you could improve your sound with another center the by all means try it but I wouldn’t recommend it out of the gate, wait to see if you have any issues with a single center first.

I remember reading something about the cancellation thing a long while back but I believe upon further research it was deemed to be a non-issue regarding the centers, by who? I'll never begin to remember. It's non-issue with our particular system.

I originally had no intentions of a two center setup but whenever I upgraded from the 100 to a 150 after the system was moved into a larger area I just kept the 100, tried it with the 150 and liked it.
