Hi Everyone,

I'm not really sure what I want to do...

I currently own a 8' sub that have been currently doing OK in my room that is 20x17x8. Now I feel there is something missing in the bottom end, its not like its bad, just a little more ummf will be good.

Here is the question, do I add a EP125 to the current setup and go 2 subs, or do I just go with a EP175 or EP350?

I don't really need for the sub to go really deep, I don't want to rattle foundations but need it do a good job.

This is my setup...

Axiom M60's, VP 150
Cambridge Soundworks Dipole's x4
Mirage PS8 Sub.
Pioneer Elite VSX54

Let me know what your ideas may be.

Thanks,

John

Yes, in that large a room, I think you need a bigger box (like an EP350 or similar) to get "oomph" \:\)

For that size room, I would recommend a larger more powerful sub. Once calibrated it can provide smooth, clean, low bass. Smaller subs just can't move as much air. You also could use your existing sub if you want with the new one.

Sure - I'd keep the existing sub (since it is apparently a credible performer) and perhaps place it nearfield. That way, you can flatten the frequency response among multiple positions AND also provide greater overall SPL.

OK, so keep the old sub and use it for rear sound stage, now for the front, the EP350 is a little pricey and large, can the EP175 do the trick? Or should I look elsewhere, or is the EP350 the better option.

what is your budget? The factory outlet will save you 10%. For that room, you need larger sub(s). I have a 600 and 2 350's in my room.

How big is your room to warrant 3 subs? My budget is currently $500 Canadian.

I wouldn't bother buying another sub for your application until you can spend a little more.

Well, I would like to spend more on a sub, but a larger TV has taken priority.

From what everyone is telling me that the EP350 would fit the bill for my application. Something to think about I guess.

You could also look to SVS from Sonicboomaudio the PB10-nsd is a good performer and not too expensive, around the $600 cdn mark.

My understanding is that there is a substantial difference between the 350 and the 175. I'd go for the 350 with the 10% off from the outlet.

And Randy's room is 116' long times 74' wide. Oh, with 41' ceilings.

EP350. I listened to the 175 in a 20x12x8 room. It just doesn't have enough displacement. Its probably OK for music, but there was just no impact for movies.

The svs pb10 is probably a reasonable alternaitve at a lower price point.

I have not heard this sub, but it is well-reviewed and, at $649, closer to your price target:

Outlaw Audio LFM-1 EX.

I have an Outlaw preamp/amp combo which I can highly recommend. Like Axiom, Outlaw is an internet-only retailer with a 30-day trial period.

The only downside I see is that you need to keep pmbuko or BigJohn around to plug that port to really get the low, low 16 Hz bass.

Spongemark seems to be soaking up a lot of abuse lately.

As long as he doesn't have to clean up the mess you leave after plugging all those ports.

Also consider the Paradigm DSP series subs, I believe the DSP3200 can be had for $550ish CDN and the 3100 for under $500, in addition to the others already mentioned.

Sorry Mark, your comment was also on the money also. Gawd, I feel like a Oscar winner thanking everyone and... wait the music started... ahhh... and I like to thank....

Well it all comes down to room size, the bigger it is the more you have to spend to make it sound great. The 8' sub was in a smaller room and it was great then, but now... not so good.

Good call Adrian, I can second the Paradigm DSP subs as well. The 3100 is an excellent little sub and you should be able to pick it up for well within your budget. I think the SVS PB10 is slightly better than the Paradigm but also slightly more money and outside your budget.

That's kind of you, but no.... Fred won. I accept that.
