Okay now i have my ht receiver with 2 spkr (2.0)
i don't have the budget to buy all spkr in a one shot deal (to go at 5.1 or 7.1).
.. so if i go step by step, what is the logical order of upgrade to get the maximun improvements at each steps ???

.. personnaly i think.....

a)get a sub (2.1) i dream about ep500
b)get rear spkr or center ???? i don't know
c)get center or rear.
d)get extra surround for 7.1
e)finally change my actual front spkr (JBL LX55) for M60 ?

I might be wrong but what do you think ???
Some of yours make step by step ?
what are de DO an DON'T ???

For now, i'm more audiophile than movie watcher.

I'm going step-by-step also. But I'm upgrading from a working 5.1 system, so mine is a little different.

1. I went to 7.1 with the addition of a pair of QS8s for the sides, and moved my existing surrounds to the rear.
2. Getting a VP150 soon to replace my center.
3. Another pair of QS8s for the rear.
4. EP500 to replace my existing sub before I get the M80s, because I think the M80s will actually reach lower than my current sub.
5. Pair of M80s.

If you listen mostly alone, and can sit in the sweet spot, you can easily put off getting the center until later. Until then make use of the phantom effect from your mains.

People say to make sure the timbre matches across the front. But I'm replacing my center quite a while before I get to the mains. That's mostly because the timbre of my Sony center is already very different from the mains, and it is rather unpleasing timbre at that. I want to get rid of that thing as soon as possible.

Thank you Chris.

for the timbre effect between cntr & front i'm aware of this and i may suppose that it's sould not be a such big difference between VP100 & VP150 and my existing front spkr JBL LX55 scince that they are with titanuim tweeter and almost the same efficacity of the Axiom VP's (i'll have to listen to it anayways to confirm).

I am in the process of building up my system piece by piece too. I considered a number of upgrade paths, but after getting some suggestions from Dean and others, here is the path that I'm on.

I started off by buying a new receiver (Denon 3808ci) and center channel (VP150). I continued to use my old stereo speakers from 25+ years ago to give me a 3.0 setup. After saving up enough $$ I got the M80's and now use the old stereo speakers for my surrounds. My next phase is to get the subwoofer. (I will soon be posting to this site for input since I now have saved enough $$.) Eventually I expect to get some QS8's to replace the old stereo speakers. Then, perhaps, another set of QS8's for the back but that might be problematic for my room.

I went on a similar quest

i bought the VP150 to replace the cervin vega
then the QS8..didnot have any surround before
then M80s to replace the Pioneer towers
still not got the Sub.

M80 has a lot of Bass and i can differ the Sub purchase for sometime. I want to give a listen to EP500 before i make up my mind. I am not impressed with EP350..would rather get the SVS.

I still use my faithful Denon 4802 and a 10 year old toshiba dvd player.

Looking for somebody in San Jose with EP500.

If this is a music first system, I would go with replacing the fronts first. Move the old fronts to surround duties and use a phantom center for movies.

If the phantom center works well, I would next add a sub and then look at replacement surrounds and a center.
