On Saturday, I saw They Might Be Giants at the 3rd USA Science & Engineering Festival, the largest STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education event of its kind in the United States. They played on a sound stage in the Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

They did two set lists, the first billed as the "family show", but the second actually being very family friendly as well. The first one did lean more heavily on their awesome album, Here Comes Science.

It was really fun for many reasons. First and foremost, it was my 8 year old son's first rock concert. A couple months back, he'd gone on a school field trip to the Kennedy Center for a kids-oriented classical show (hat tip to JohnK, whose ears certainly perked up just now), but this was his first rock show. We enjoyed the song selection greatly - my favorite was "Meet the Elements", and Nolan's was "I Am a Paleontologist". I'm not sure what Gail's was - maybe "Older." (HA ha!)

As is the norm, the Johns did a lot of witty bantering about the venue, e.g. having to compete with 3M, Lockheed, and the Air Force for attention.

It was a fun day overall - we only saw a fraction of the 750 exhibits, but what we got to see was cool, especially robotics and nanotechnology. Hopefully much enrichment of little brains happened that day.

Bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica.

Driving down to houston Friday for dave matthews band, then to Dallas Saturday for night 2 of dave matthews band. Also, round 3 of dave matthews band in Tulsa on Wednesday. I'm pumped! Each concert is multiple sets, acoustic and electric, I think with no opener so they can fit all of their planned songs in.

Ya, he hasn't played Vancouver in years. Too many people from the lower mainland make the trek every year to The Gorge in Washington to catch his concerts.

Went to Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers this past Thursday evening. Amazing show all around. Get there early as Steve Winwood is supporting Tom on this tour.

Spirt of the West (who opened for) and Blue Rodeo at the Assiniboine Park outdoor theatre last Friday. Only $25 for tickets!! Beautiful 3/4 moon clear sky night too!!

First time there's been a ticketed event at this venue. They really need to work on the amount, location and people flow for the beer tickets and tent. I may have a video which i'll link once i upload it.

While I'm honestly not a big fan of either, I've seen both and they both put on a quality show. I bet it was a good time.

I'm not a die hard fan, must see these bands type of person, but i don't know many people who shy away from the popular sounds of Blue Rodeo.
Truly Canadiana!

Sorry pal. Could just be Jim Cuddy's voice, or the slide guitar sound that is not a slide guitar but an organ played like a slide guitar, but it's just too country for me.

Sorry to be an individual.

There, I said "sorry" twice. Is that Canadian enough for ya?
