I read somewhere that a good way to test for the ideal subwoofer location is to place the sub in the primary listening location and walk around the room until you find the perfect spot. Is this fact or fiction?

Sub crawl. Crawl until you hear it the strongest. Although sometimes it's not the most practical spot. I had the best response w/ the sub pretty much in the middle of the walkway of the living room...had to compromise by putting next to the fireplace.

fact, but as oldskool mentioned, you should crawl. The theory is that it's easier to move yourself than the sub, so you should just pretent you are the sub and the sub is you.
It works out scientifically.

hmm. makes sense. What about if the possible sub location is under a small desk. The same approach should work if i crawl under the desk and listen right?
