being a good prairie boy I couldn't imagine what one was like, but I can now speak from experience. We had a 4.4 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan when I was there. I was out in the open, but it was pretty freaky. I know it scared the bejesus out of a lot of the other country bumpkins that were living there (lots of English teachers there from Saskatchewan and Manitoba). Hope there's no one hurt!

Very strong in my building in Sunnyvale, CA (silicon valley). Our building is relative new, so it sits on rollers. We could definitely notice all of the swaying.

Yep...felt it here. I'm little farther south of it than spiff.
The blinds on the office windows were swaying. One of my guys was over at Office Depot...called him up...he did not feel it, but looked up at the lights and saw them swaying as well.

I moved to LA from Maine 9+ years ago. I'm just now getting somewhat used to it. The smallest quake used to completely freak me out.
If you did not grow up with it, it's VERY hard to get used to. Growing up in Maine, it was just a given...the ground DOES NOT move. It's the ground for cripes sakes!
I've since learned otherwise.

yeah...we get earthquakes all the time too...but not 6.5 earthquakes.
I am a born and raised southern californian. The Northridge quake...which I think was 6.7, and I lived about 40 miles from the center. That one freaked me out.

Get this, I live in San Luis Obispo. I left this morning an hour before the quake to go down to Irvine to spend Xmas with my parents. I have no idea whether my Axioms, HDTV, Denon reciever, or my 450+ DVDs on massive bookshelves survived the earthquake. And I have no friends with a key into my apartment. My dog and girlfriend are out of town as well. I did not get earthquake insurance (only fire other lesser damage) because it was too expensive, I wonder if Axiom honors the warranty under earthquake coverage?

I worked for Xerox when the Northridge earthquake hit. In fact, that area was part of my territory. Anyways, the Xerox contracts did not exclude "acts of god", so they have to replace or fix equipment damaged by the quake.

When I go back home, maybe Saturday?
Or if I can get my property manager to go in and check it out for me. But I would rather not have them go in because there are some changes I did to my apartment they may not like. And I have a dog that I am not allowed to have and they may find evidence of the dog if they really look around for it. Nothing obvious, but there is dog hair on certain things if they really look for it.

Yikes!
My brother-in-law's parents live in Templeton (very close to San Luis Obispo). They had just left their house on their way to Arizona when the quake hit. They felt it and turned around. When they got home, their big screen TV had tipped over and their collection of fine china was no longer so fine...
I didn't feel it, but my brother was on the Richmond Bridge at the time and felt it swaying.

Templeton is even closer to the epicenter than San Luis Obispo. That is not good news about their TV. I really need to get home. I hope my TV did not fall, it wieghs 230 lbs! I know for sure my dvd cases fell.
