Was that a joke, perhaps? You don't like Maddox's site? From his FAQ:

 Quote:
I've chosen a black background for most of my text because it's easier on the eyes than staring at a white screen. Think about it: your monitor is not a piece of paper, no matter how hard you try to make it one. Staring at a white background while you read is like staring at a light bulb (don't believe me? Try turning off the lights next time you use a word processor). Would you stare at a light bulb for hours at a time? Not if you want to keep your vision.

If the print weren't enlarged on that site, Charles, I would get a headache reading on a black background or at the least it would get blurry to me. If white print on black was indeed easier or better, then 99.9% of the internet has it wrong, I guess.

I’ve been using “dark” for years. I also changed the font’s to large and no headaches here. Quite the opposite I find the dark background and light lettering much easier on the eyes.

Dean, by "dark", do you mean white lettering on true black or just a somewhat darker colour. It's when I try to read normal type on black background that I have problems. I do prefer some colour(light blue, green ect) in the background but prefer black type.

Ah well, that's why we have "preferences".

I agree about a black background being a poor choice for designing a website. If the room the computer is in has lot of sunlight pouring in, it really strains my eyes reading the text giving me a headhache. Usually it is white or red text in this case and it sucks.

The "Axiom" dark isn't too bad, at least it's a medium grey(on my computer).

Now, if we could get light grey background with a nice fuschia coloured print, that would be just Maaahhvelous!

I've never gotten a headache from either light or dark color schemes, so I can't really say that I have a preference. And who does their computing in a sun-drenched room? To the cave!

Here I use the ubbthreads-dark style sheet so most of the screen is dark grey, dark blue and some black with a sort of subdued white lettering. At AVS I use the blue background w/yellow lettering. I think I remember them changing that from the default a while back so I switched back over. For most other sites I just use larger fonts and stopped messing with the colours using custom style sheets. My room is very dark so when the whole screen is white it’s overpowering.

It’s been a while since I’ve played with it but even Windows allows you to change the background and text colours of some programs though it’s not a flexible as something like Linux.
