My father is in need of a receiver that will convert composite video to HDMI, probably for less than $400. Do modern receivers do this? Anyone have any recommendations? He probably won't want to buy a refurb.

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.

That looks good. I'm still trying to figure out what his component list is, but he's all SD right now, and I doubt he's going to be able to swing a TV, receiver, BD and HD TiVo past my Mom!

Yeah, Ken; if factory refurbs are out(they really should be in), that 1610 is about as good a buy as any.

That's really my suspicion more than anything, but the other 2 recommendations I sent him were both factory refurbs.

Well, then the Onkyo 707 at A4L which dak links to, and which I've suggested several times recently, should certainly be considered.

Ah, I had looked at the 608, but I missed the 707. Quite a deal.

Here in Japan the 707 is $800 on the cheapest place I found. LOL what a difference.

Keep in mind when you see those great prices at Accessories4less, they're usually not new, but factory reconditioned units. Still, their prices on new items are good.

sonicfox is right the 707
Item condition: Onkyo Factory Reconditioned
personally it wouldn't bother me too much, i've bought an amp and a receiver from them( i don't remember if i got new units or referb), about 5 years ago, and both units are still working great today... i use the amp on a daily basis, and my aunt and uncle are using the receiver, which also also used daily.
