For reference I set it to 80db at 1000 hz, but only on the top one. Then I turned EQ on and ran it again without resetting it to 80db at 1000 hz. Zero on the chart represents 80db.

On the first chart when I actually got to 1000 hz, the meter read 81db, so that's what I graphed it as. That explains why 1000 hz is slightly above the line.

It just occurred to me that I didn't unplug the on-wall M22's when I ran a test on just the bookshelf M22's, so I'm going to redo that same test with the on-wall M22's unplugged. I did move the M22's a bit so that they were between the on-wall M22 and the TV so that the port on the back of the M22's were firing onto the wall.

Here's the corrected chart of the bookshelf M22's only.

Top chart: Bookshelf M22 with MCACC EQ off, sound retriever off, subwoofer off. Set to Large.

Bottom chart: Same as Top chart except with MCACC EQ on.

Edit: Now as to the earlier question, does it sound any better with the Equalizer on?, the answer is yes. The EQ on adds a richness to the sound.

Dang... It's one of those days. Just as soon as my edit above expires, I just discovered that what I thought was the bookshelf M22's were plugged in, it was the on-walls instead, running with the EQ settings for the bookshelf.

So, lets try this again!

I see now why this exercise is entirely meaningless. On any given note, I noticed first with my ears, then with the meter, that the placement of the meter, even inches difference, can cause the volume to go way up or way down dramatically. Just moving my head one single foot one way or the other can cause as much as a 20 db difference for a single note. I thought that this phenomenon was isolated to bass, but it's not. What a surprise to find that location affects all frequencies.

... and that is why using EQ to 'correct' a measured issue is mostly useless. The EQ adjustment is good for just that specific location and will probably break as much as it fixes.

Multi-EQ attempts to correct this with the measurement and correction of multiple positions, but I'm not so sure its all that effective.

I was shocked by what I found. I mean just an inch or 2 can make a huge difference, so unless I only have 1 ear at the exact location that the mic was in when I did the measurement then all bets are off.

Hi,
That is why Axiom strongly recommends not ot use Auto-EQ; the only sure thing it does is altering the linearity of the speaker.

Possibly more so than the room already does.

You should see the treatments put into recording studios to counter the effects of the room.

Just thinking out loud here. Since I'm planning on wall mounting my bookshelf M22's and move the on-wall M22's up a bit, I'm thinking that perhaps I'll purchase the on-wall M2's and try them out mounted above the bookshelf M22's instead.

The reason being, I can get them in the same color as the bookshelf M22's, which is Boston Cherry, so they will blend in better. Also, they are shorter so they will fit better.

Another reason is both of these speakers (the bookshelf and the on-wall) have different sound attributes. Separately, I think the bookshelfs are too bassy and the on-walls are too tinny. To my ears and room combination. But together is a different story. It's like having the best of both worlds. Too bad I don't have the M80 to compare with. I'm sure that they would sound the best overall. But it'd probably look kind of funny having them mounted on the wall, and stick out too far.

Edit: M2 maybe not a good idea. I just remembered what Dean said about them being 2db less than the M22. Is it 2db less because of one less speaker? Wouldn't the SPL from the tweeter and the midrange speaker be the same though?
