Not sure if anyone's asked this before but I was wondering which would win the boxing match . . .
- in the left corner the EP800v3. Weighing in at 123.4lbs and 800watts for $2350.
- in the right corner two EP500v3's. Total weight 145.2lbs and 1000watts for a similar $2460.

While the EP800 does go slightly lower than the EP500 and louder by 6db, what happens when you get two EP500's working together? Also considering the possible advantages of being able to position two subwoofers (say at opposite corners of the room, etc)?
Which is the better bang (or is it BOOM!) for the buck?

Largely dependant on the room, but my money will go to the two 500's over a single 800. I am somewhat discriminant though, I have two 500's and am not in want for more.

Same here, my duals are stacked in one corner. It can be frightening sometimes...:)

Two EP500s (though I've heard only a single EP500 and no EP800). I'd guess you'd get comparable volume and bass extension, but you'd be better able to tailor the sound, with two positions to adjust, two volume controls, and two sub crossovers. Also, if one breaks, you still have bass.

The twin 500 will allow for a smoother bass response throught out the room( this is room dependent as grunt had no help from dual subs) while the EP800 should allow for deeper LFE to be played back adding more feel to the effects. I thnk most would like smoother overall response over the deeper playback of the 800 but I think I would go for the single 800 to get the deeper LFE playback for movies as I like my sub(PB13 Ultra) when tuned at ~15hz response over it tuned at 20hz.

Yeah, when this question has come up in recent history, most people have suggested the dual subs as the more satisfying option, but I would probably opt for the single EP800. Of course, just so I didn't have to worry, I ended up with multiple EP800s. I know that's not a realistic option for most people with less skewed priorities. smile Anyway, I think either way you'd be pretty happy.
