I am in the process of putting together an Axiom HT system. I wish I could listen to them first!! All the great reviews are making it difficult not to do it.

The room they will be in is 16' X 24' with a 16' vaulted ceiling. It was recommended that I go with the M60s for the front, QS8 surrounds, VP100 center and the EP350 sub. Which is the Epic 60 system.

My original budget WAS $1500.

My questions:
1) QS8 vs QS4. Is there that big a difference? I thought the surrounds were the least important.
2) VP100 vs VP150. Should I invest more in the center?
3) EP350 vs EP175. Is there that big a difference?
4) Any thoughts on the Factory Outlet? I can save about $200 that way, although I would have to wait. I've read some good things about the great condition that they are in, but with my luck I will get a "true" factory second.

Reading many of the posts, I have a good feeling what the responses will be. Also, I have a Denon AV receiver.

Thanks everyone!!

Everything looks great, except... (you knew this was coming):

I'd upgrade to the VP150 and consider getting everything from the factory outlet. In almost everybody's experience, the FO speakers' blemishes are almost laughable.

I have M60's and QS8's. They are from the FO, but look basically perfect to me. They sound fantastic. I use a Denon 1804, and am very very happy.

My advice (you did ask, didn't you?) is to buy the "better" pieces incrementally rather than compromise so that you can everything right now. In the long run, you'll be much happier. And in the short run, you'll be listening to M60's, which should make you really happy too!

The one thing that everyone raves about here are the QS8's. It's the one thing almost everyone makes note of out of the whole set. Therefore when I finally pull the trigger they're the one thing that's absolutely coming across my doorstep.

Great idea. I was thinking about doing it incrementally starting with the M60s. You helped confirm going that direction. Thanks

I'd recomend that you think about an Hsu STF-2 ($399.00). It will save you a few hundred and will amaze you with the tight bass sound!

I bought my Axiom system last Chrsitmas and your post reminds me of the recent choices I had to make. I am really happy with the results so here is my input:

1- I based my purchase on the EPIC60 system but with some changes. For me, clarity of the dialogues and frontstage was more important than earthshaking bass, so I upgraded the center to a VP150 and downgraded the sub to a EP175 (couldn't afford both). I am really pleased with the results. The bass is not extremely strong but it is tight and blend very well with the M60's. If I want to upgrade later, I can always add a second EP175. From what I've heard, it will also be easier to reduce the effect of standing waves using 2 subwoofers anyway for a better distribution.

2- I have no doubt that the QS4 are great speakers but I went with the QS8 just because the tweeters are the sames than the rest of the system and from my research, it is always a good idea to go that way in order to have a matched"timber" across your system for a better blending. Dimensions of your room also suggest that you would could use the QS8. However, if money is tight, I'd go with the QS4.

Hope this helps!

I hope I am not too late to weigh in on the sub. My room is 16x22x10 and I looked at both the VTF-2 and SVS 20-39 PCi. Several discussions with both companies and lotsa research resulted in the SVS. I am extremely pleaes withthe quality and performance. Although I have seen it referred to as "the evil water heater", it hides nicely behind a chair.

Just an additional choice to consider.

Here's the really good news you can't make a mistake between HSU or SVS - both provide exceptional products.

You're not too late. I decided not to get the Axiom sub, but was still undecided between SVS and HSU. Thanks for your input.
