Just ran across another Canadian speaker manufacturer, Are Audio. Boy, their Grinder speakers sure bare a striking resemblance to the Axiom M40ti, (porting aside). The price bares no resemblence however as they are about 5 times as much $$$!

Unusual design on their bookshelf speakers(website) with the port on the top side like that.
Half of communication is listening. You can't listen with your mouth.

Yes, they say that "Are Audio can do different", but they recognize the benefits of that enclosure shape and don't hesitate to follow. Besides an effect on internal resonances, possibly even more significant is a reduction in external sound diffraction from the front corners and the sides of the enclosure. Interesting that the bookshelves, where this is just as important, don't feature this.

No, Adrian; from reading the site, it appears that they have some sort of coffee fetish. Those are to hold the cups.

There is no question about their coffee fetish, "Light Roasters", "Grinders" etc. No doubt when you are building speakers one pair at a time, your prices are going to be "slightly" higher. I took notice of the pictures of turntables and the text re: hi-fi so, no doubt the pre-occupation with two channel audio and the kind of "snob appeal" that goes along with that.
There are a number of these small esoteric speaker manufacturers throughout North America but especially in Canada that sell their products in a very limited manner, usually at inflated prices(seems mostly like a hobby rather than a business).
It is interesting to note though, they have NO retail exposure and only sell online or through demonstrations. The only problem is, there are very few details(shipping costs, warranty etc.) and only that they are based out of St.John's Nfld(no address or Tel. Nbr.). A little far to go for a demo.
