Hello, i'm new here. I just built a new house and i'm very interested in Axiom Speaker.

I currently have a Yamaha receiver (RX-Z7). What speaker do you recommend? The home theater is 14x14 and 9 feet ceiling.
I need a 5.1 system.

thanks in advance

chuck

Welcome. I would think that it all depends on what will fit in the space you have available and your budget. I'd always start with their M80's if I could for the mains, then work down from there.

Have you tried the tab above called "HTWizard"?

First you need to tell us you application, mostly movies, music, what type, etc... then you need to give us your budget and then the people on this forum will make sure that you go well over it laugh

Thank you very much!

My main objective is Movie. I have speaker in the ceiling for music. I think that the biggest speaker i can install is the M60 because of the holes I already have in the wall (max clearance is 38 inch)

Pictures would be good. Installing speakers in holes in the wall is beginning to sound like a bad idea. This would alter how the speakers sound in a negative way.

Edit: Unless you buy speakers specifically made for this type of mounting system.

Well the classic setup would be M60 as main, VP150/180 as center and QS back. For the subwoofer there is a plenty of option avalaible. If you want go with Axiom, then get a EP500. Plenty of power, but wait... There is also a EP800 smile

If you are looking to place the speakers recessed into the wall then I would suggest the in cabinet series of speakers with the M60/M80s and the VP180 for center duty. the QS8's will be the speaker of choice for the surrounds and pick which ever sub you want from Axiom list of the EP350/500/600/800 or one from another company like Hsu, SVS(sonicboomaudio.com in Canada), eD(elemental Designs), or Epic to name a few others.

It'd be nice to know how deep those in-wall holes are, because the in-cabinet m60/m80 are roughly the same size, except the m60 is about 3 inches shallower. The M80 is 18 inches deep. Much too big for most walls.

But there is the in-wall M22 that could work, again depending on what kind of hole you're trying to fit.

Those in-cabinet speakers are really meant for false walls or walls with rear access(thru-wall) into an adjacent room.

Chuck, welcome. Yes, a little more detail about the "hole" in the wall might help us in making suggestions. Recessing a speaker into an opening isn't generally a good idea.

Looks like we're also going to need the dimensions of the 3 holes.

Height, Width, and depth.

Hi,

Actually if the hole in Chuck's wall is tall enough and wide enough, it might be a good application for the in-cabinet M60.

The in-cabinet models are all front-ported so you don't have the issue of the ports venting in the back and you'd only need wire access to the speaker binding posts in the rear for initial connection.

Alan

I love how the in-cabinet Axiom towers look absolutely appalled by whatever it is they're seeing.

I'm thinking M60 in cabinet, per Alan. That center hole looks too small for the 150.

Definitely hit the QS8 for surrounds.

I'll leave the sub decision to the bassheads.

Pull the trigger. Be done. Get on with enjoying the sound.

Yeah, that looks ideal for in cab. Personally, I'd like a little more separation for my mains, but hey, what do you do. Not like my setup is ideal...

Are the in-cabinet speakers meant to set on a shelf? I don't see any other mounting provisions.

Because of their weight, they need to be sitting on a shelf of some sort and mounted flush with the wall.

There is a lip all the way around the front, so they can't sit completely even with the floor. The support shelf has to be at least a couple inches up.

Definitely in-cabinet speakers for those holes, M60's look like they might fi, if not in-cab M22's will fit nicely and the center would need to be an in-cab VP150(size?) or IMO, better yet an incab vertical M2 smile

When they're that close, is even a center channel necessary?

Yeah, I agree, way too close for decent separation at normal viewing distances. He could get good stereo separation if he sits really close to that monitor, so let's hope it's 1080p.

Later on, adding an extra pair of "stereo wide" speakers outboard to the holes would help a lot in broadening the stereo image.

Back from business trip, here are the holes dimentions:

15.25 deep (i can remove the drywall to add another 0.5inch)
8.75 wide (again i can remove the drywall on each side to ad 1.0inch)
38.25 height (i can remove the drywall and the upper 2x4 structure to accomodate the M60 in cab)

so i think that my final conclusion is that i will go with the M60 in cab, the VP150 in/on wall, the QS8 and the EP 500.

I will probably get a set of M3 outdoor at the same time.

thanks you all for your help!

I went to pick up the speakers last week. I did installed everything Wednesday. Will post pic soon. I didn't have the time to calibrate everything but so far, I'm impressed by the system.

I bought M60 in cab, VP150 in cab, QS8 and EP500. I also purchased M3 outdoor but I will wait for this spring to install them since it's -20C outside this past week smile

Thanks again for your help in choosing my new system! Axiom rock!
