OK,
Will the subject bracket work to ceiling mount QS8's? I don't want to use the ceiling mounts-I want the speakers to be as close to the ceiling as possible for WAF.
Thanks,
TW

Will it work, possibly, but it really defeats the whole design purpose of this speaker, not to mention proper surround placement.

Cut him some slack, Randy. We all know how forgiving QS8s are. A QS8 on the ceiling is better than no QS8 at all.

I should have explained a little more. I need to install 2 QS8's for the back speakers in the ceiling. I will have 2 more on the walls inside of these (relative to the front of the room). I have no wall at the back of the living room these are going in. This will be a 7.1 system. I have M-22's and a VP 150 that I will also use in my new house. My wife will not go for the ceiling mount FMB's. IN fact, she wants little bity speakers on the ceiling but I think I will have to talk her into flat white QS8's mounted close to the ceiling. Thanks for the comments.

Also, I may just install the QS8's directly against the ceiling, but I need to take apart one of my QS8's to see if this is possible.

TW, your last suggestion isn't entirely clear. If by "directly against the ceiling" you mean completely blocking the upper mid-woofer, this would significantly affect the dispersion characteristics. This may not be what you're thinking of, however, since taking the QS8 apart wouldn't seem to provide any useful info about this.

Or are you thinking about mounting them so the back is flush to the ceiling?

Yeah,
Mounting the back of the speaker against the ceiling. That is why I am wanting to use the Full Metal Bracket versus the Full Metal Ceiling Bracket. I want the speakers mounted horizontally versus vertically. This will make the profile smaller.
My wife wants smaller speakers in these positions so they are less likely to be noticed by other wifes. I want to use QS8's with an off white finish, but want to mount the speakers horizontally to minimize the space they occupy.

Hmm. I'd be worried about the pull on the screws with the T bracket, and I'm still worried about the pull on the screws with the FMB. Not sure how the FMCB avoids that. BIG screws, I guess... or maybe bolts with nuts on the other side of the beam...

With the Full Metal Bracket, there will be a gap between ceiling and the back of the speaker. The only hardware that gets the back of the QS flush with the mounting surface is the T-bracket.

The T-bracket can't be used on the ceiling. It's designed to only be used with gravity pulling along the length of the assended in the T.

That said, QS8s mounted high enough up on the wall (above the normal sight line) will virtually disappear. Pick a color blends in (paintable finish, and your wall paint), and I'm betting the other wives (and probably your own) won't notice. I have black QS8s against white walls, people don't notice them until I point them out.

I'd say get them without the brackets and give it a shot on the wall. You'll really be rewarded with how much better they sound to the side of your head rather than above.

Or if we're just talking about the 6 and 7 of a 7.1 setup (ie, the rears), just do the in ceiling. They don't really do much anyway, from what I understand.

If you have surround backs, and always use Prologic IIx, they'll be as active as your side surrounds. Then it really helps to have them all on the same plane.

You can get a paintable finish on your speakers with eggshell white grills and they should blend in with your wall color very well. The full metal bracket will make the speaker stick out quite a bit more than just using the flush mounted bracket that comes with the speakers and placing them as suggested (a couple feet behind and above ear level in the sweet spot). Also, there is an article on the website (can't find it right now) about painting the grills to make them blend it even better. I can't remember if you need special grills to do it or what, but you can probably contact Axiom and they will know.

If you were able to paint the entire speaker and grill in the exact same color as the wall then the flush mount should make it so that you (or better yet your spouse) really don't even notice them.
