Hello all

Does anyone have expereince with Harmon Kardon amps for HT. I know a guy that installs audio and HT and can get deals on HK from his supplier.

I haven't heard any HK products in many years and have no idea what they sound like with Axioms.

Thanks

HK makes good products and probably won't "sound" any different than a Denon, Onkyo, Yammy, if within designed limitations.

I have been running an H/K AVR 347 for a couple years now. It's a great reciever. Sounds fantastic, amazing clarity and plenty powerful. I recently upgraded to an axiom on wall speaker setup and the h/k pairs well with them. I don't think you would be disappointed.

I've been running a AVR 630 for almost 7 years now and have nothing but good to say. I bought mine on the ebay Harman Kardon store-refurbished.

Zute, good deals are readily available on most of the major receiver brands, including HK, so you really don't have to "know a guy".

There's no need to wonder how the Axioms would sound with them. On the same program material the Axioms would sound the same(at flat settings)as with Denon, Onkyo, Pioneer, Yamaha, etc.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

Thanks all for the info.

I went to the HK website and looked over their product line and could only find an AVR and no power amps - which I found odd. Since I already have an AVR I'm not replacing it with another one, I need an amp.

I'm just trying to save a buck since this guy gets them for cost but if they don't have amps then I'll look elsewhere.

Thanks again.

zuter,

I don't think H/K has built separate power amplifiers for quite a few years now. In Sound&Vision magazine equipment directories I checked, the last year that listed H/K power amplifiers was 2004.

Alan

Hi Alan

Thanks. After I posted I looked on HK's site and I believe they only have power amps for professional installs, ie: stage and theatre. My bad for not looking first.

Your Axiom 1400-8 looks very appealing but wish you guys made a less powerful, aka cheaper version, say a 700-8 smile - by the way, love my new speakers!

My search continues!

as regards pro amps, you could have a look at Crown's pro amps like:
http://www.crownaudio.com/amp_htm/xls_drivecore.htm

or QSC's: http://www.qscaudio.com/products/amps/gx/

there is also Peavey amps.

versatile, powerful, light, durable; also, the SQ should be the same as "audiophile" amps.

I'll second pro amps with one caveat, a lot of them have fans that can be noisy if you listen at lower levels.

Peavey recently released its IPR series class D amps and they seem to be quite good. The IPR1600 will give you plenty of power and was bench tested by Danley Labs (commercial audio company) and passed with flying colours.
