Congrats on the purchase! Is this your first Honda? My wife and I have owned 5 new and 3 used Honda vehicles in the past 20 years. The biggest piece of advice I can give is to do all the maintenance recommended in the book. (Even the things that seem trivial or redundant) Do not deviate from the schedule laid out by Honda. We usually keep them between 250,000 and 300,000 km's, and have experienced relatively no issues, except...... with two of them, I decided I knew better than the book. Ended up having more (and larger) repairs on those two.

We usually keep them between 250,000 and 300,000 km's, Isn't that only about 4 miles?

As Shawn said, stick to the maintenance schedule you should be fine. Timing belt replacement per schedule is probably one of the most important or most important of these, as it is with many vehicles(most Hondas have overlap/interference on the valves so a bad timing belt can cause $$$ repairs).

Hopefully all going ok with the car as I am really broke with the new house.

I've put 189,000 miles on my Chrysler Cirrus and it's still going good. These cars were everywhere 10 years ago. Now, it's a real rarity that you see one on the streets. There's only 2 in my local junk yard. Where did they all go?

They're over there. Take a left at the Monzas and the Chevettes, turn right at the pile of Chrysler and Caddy trannys, go under the the arch of Granadas and they'll be right there next to all the Renaults, Fiats and Opels.
189,000 miles! That's like 10 years in Canadian money.

I am sure the Cirrus' et al were parted out quickly and crushed/recycled, 189,000 miles has to be a record.

A good friend of mine had a Cirrus. "Had". Worst car he said he ever owned, from day one he had problems....soon after he bought it the head leaked antifreeze into the engine...it went downhill from there. Chrysler service/dealers were a HUGE pita according to him.

Sounds like he bought it used, where the previous owner tried to "patch it up", or, maybe not.
I've had a few problems, one is oil leaks, but that's due to shoddy dealer repair work. Since then, I've found a good mechanic who works out of his own shop in the country.

+1 thumbs up for Honda.
For my next car, I would consider a Honda. My wife likes her 2002 CR-V; has about 120,000 km on it.
I am around 185,000 km on my 2001 Nissan Maxima.
The numbers sound so impressive in km, don't they?!

Thanks, good info. My Cirrus has the 2.5 engine. It's the 2.7 that has problems in this article, but it wasn't put in any Cirrus'. One other thing I've had some problem with is transmission, but so far, every time it starts acting up, I just take it to one of those quick oil change places and have the transmission oil replaced, and I'm good to go. It's time for me to do this again.

The other thing I love about Honda is that 89% of what is sold here, is made here. (North America)

Joyce has a 2000 Cirrus. AND it started it's life as a rental. We really need to get her a new car, but she works half a mile away, so it seems there's always a different priority.

Wait, she's married to Mark, I take that back.

I think it's more the "NH Winter" thing (sidewalks are only starting to be clear of ice in the last couple of days)....plus she goes in around 5:30am and much of the year, it's still dark out.
She actually DOES walk when she can.
Either way, though, she only puts 4K miles on her car a year. Which is 762,000 Kilometers.

Honda cars are reliable, well built, dynamically virtuous (they accelerate, brake and handle well), have wonderful manual transmissions (best in the business IMO), are economical, ergonomic over achievers, use superior materials in the interior and are fun to drive.
Honda makes the best 4 cylinder engines in the business. They are smooth, powerful and love to rev.

CHECK TIMING CHAIN MAINTENANCE. Check Consumers Reports Reliability stats.

Joyce has never had a new car, either. It's not really a "her or me" thing, it's always about the business. Sometimes, I take clients with me to a shoot, so we want the business vehicle to not be an embarrassment.
I want her to be able to buy a new car, though. To go through the process and have that "pride of ownership" is a nice feeling.

Since you said "I take clients with me to a shoot" (Must be hard on keeping return business.) I've decided she needs a Jeep!!! The roll bars make the perfect place to mount that giant camera of yours for "Drive By Shootings....".

Consumer Reports Car Edition, which just arrived in my mailbox, gives the 2007, 4cly, Accord it's highest rating.
In most categories (engine, transmission, drive system, fuel system, suspension, climate system, power equipment, audio system), less than 1 percent of respondents reported problems.
Between 1 and 2 percent of respondents reported problems with electrical, paint/trim, body integrity, body hardware.
Between 2 and 3 percent reported brake problems.
Overall, the '07 model was rated more reliable than the '08, '09, or '10, 4 cyl Accord, although they were all rated better than average.

Yeah, just read the April Consumer Reports, and as Jack indicated, that Honda was much better than average for reliability in all areas but brakes, where it was still good.

I used to work with a guy who had 540,000kms on his Prelude and to my knowledge was still being used by his wife when he bought a newer car.
Mark, 540,000kms is about 12 miles.

My next car will be a Honda. The 2000 Honda Civic that I am driving now has over 315,000 km on it and I plan to drive it at least two more years. I recently had the timing belt replaced so I should be good for a while longer. I get at least 100,000 km on a set of brakes. Great car. I hope that you enjoy yours!
