I've been enjoying many of my DVDs (again) since I installed my speakers 10 days ago. I've been specifically playing (and enjoying) the ones that I would expect to have some great sound effects for the surrounds.

I tried playing Pearl Harbor today and almost no sound comes out of any speaker. I'm trying to figure out why this movie. I select Dolby 5.1 from the Pearl Harbor setup menu, but nothing. I remember when I first got the DVD, I had some type of trouble with only front speakers.

Any thoughts? BTW I have a Denon 1802 AVR and a Sony DVD player, along with the M60s,VP150 and QS8s.

As always, thanks!

Hello JSkip,

I just got my speakers a few days after you. I'm a noob, but I'm learning quick. I have an HK630, and I found out that every single DSP mode and sub mode has a unique set of channel adjustment levels. Is it possible that the Pearl Harbor DVD causes your Denon to switch into a DSP mode that none of your other DVDs does? Maybe you just need to calibrate the speaker levels while the receiver is in that mode?

Good luck,

Not sure, but I'll look into it.

I was trying it again and it plays in the Dolby headphone setting (or whatever it's called), but it won't play when I select Dolby 5.1.

I've never had a "bad" DVD before, so this is puzzling. I may bring it to my brother's house to see how it plays and then bring his copy to my house.

John

This may sound dumb, but you do have a digital coax or optical cable from your DVD player to your receiver, right? Some players also require you to enable DD 5.1 output in the menu system. However if neither of these were done it would affect all DD 5.1 material, not just the Pearl Harbor DVD. Trying another DVD is a good idea.

This weekend, I am going to re-wire the front speakers. While I have the receiver out of the cabinet, I am going to check all connections. To your point, it shouldn't just impact the Pearl Harbor DVD.
