I bought a Linksys E4200 some time ago to replace my faulty black and blue Linksys WRT54G router. The E4200 claims wireless transfer rates up to 450mbs for streaming video or music, transferring files, etc. Unfortunately, my old Linksys Wireless gaming adapter that I used to stream my music only supported WEP security, so I disconnected it so I could run my new router in Wireless N mode and WPA2.

I finally broke down and got a TRENDnet TEW-687GA Wireless gaming adapter that supports up to 450 MBS and connects via Ethernet. As soon as it arrives from Amazon I can finally enjoy my music again smile. Occasionally my music would drop out in the middle of a song and the song would restart so hopefully this will no longer happen.

I also bought a TRENDnet 5 port gigabit switch so I can hook up my PS3 and Xbox 360.

I'm not sure how I waited so long to get a new friggin' adapter that is compatible with my new router.

You could also combine your switch and gaming adapter if they are co-located. Get a wifi router and connect it via wifi to your existing network and then use the wired ports. This pretty much allows you to have wired ports where there is no CAT5. It's a similar idea to that gaming adapter but w/ more ports.

I use my Airport Express for the same purpose. Another use for the Express or your gaming adapter, take it on the road when you travel. When you are at a hotel that only provides you w/ 1 wired port in your room (for which you pay daily for ONE connection), connect the gaming adapter to that port. Create your own private wifi and you can share your paid connection w/ multiple devices.

Yeah, I'm going to connect my switch to the gaming adapter so I can connect multiple devices in my living room to my network. Nice tip on using the wifi adapter at the hotel.
