I would like to get some advice on the position of my (soon to be) new QS'8s. I have added pictures of my room here:

With my couch on the back wall, would I be better off placing them on the back wall or on the side wall at the ceiling line. I was thinking that I could hang the one on the left (side with the hallway) just above the ceiling of the hallway.

The latest edition of the Axiom AudioFile provides some solid info for your question. The whole article is great, but note the yellow-highlighted section on the left-hand side. After you read that, choose the link at the bottom of that section and read down through the FAQ's on speaker and surround placement, and I think you'll find some reassuring answers... the QS series speakers are very forgiving for placement, and you'll have some viable options in your setup.
