Your room is only 204 sq feet and you're considering the M80's? Talk about overkill...

What are the actual dimensions of your room? How far back from the speakers will you be sitting?

I'm guessing that you'd be MUCH better off with some smaller mains and a really kick ass sub. The M80's are well known to be quite tempermental when it comes to placement. With as little real estate that you have to work with, I'm doubting they're the speaker for you.

I appreciate all the responses. Many of the conclusions about aesthetics and number of drivers in the boxes has leaned me towards the Axiom line. A number of you have noted that the m80's may be too big for my application - tell me what you think - My Room
(pardon my crude attempt at drafting)

Please note - home theater is my main goal. I listen to music on my commute home...

Looking at that picture...

M22ti mains
QS8 surrounds
VP150 center
Hsu VTF-3 MKII sub

Especially since this is mostly for HT use. You're ears are going to be no farther than 6' away from the speakers. The soundstage that the M80's (or even the M60's) throw is far too big to be sitting that close. You'll be wasting them in that room. I honestly believe not only will the M22ti mains be more practical, they'll even sound better sitting that close.

If anyone else thinks I'm nuts, say so.

Small room. So, why are you suggesting the monster Hsu? I'd say the SVS PB1 or the Hsu VTF-2 would be just fine.

Craig, I think you're nuts

Okay, not really. I think Craig is a really smart, nice person. But I could not pass that up.

My room is nearly identical in layout to the one being discussed. I have M60's and must say that the imaging and soundstage is really superb. I always wanted towers, and avoided many angst-ridden "what if" moments by getting the M60 instead of the M22, M40 or M50.

I do think that the M80's would be WAY overkill for that room. The M22 would be a wonderful choice; I think Craig is right. But I also think you could have a very satisfying experience with the M60 in that space. I sure do.

With the room 12' deep, if the couch is on the wall, you should still have 8' between the speakers and your ears. I'd say go for it!

I'd rather keep everything Axiom rather than finding a sub to fit into the equation - thanks for the advice though. I went to ecoustics and one poster suggested the m80's would work in my room despite the small nature of the room. I do have 10 foot ceilings so that may make a difference in space...

Here's the set-up I most likely will be purchasing this thursday...

VP150 Center
Pair QS8 Surrounds
M60ti Towers
EP350

...and I would still have extra $$$ out of my $2500 budget for speaker wire and rear stands!

Although I do have "upgrade-itis" and always want the biggest but based upon the helpful responses from you guys maybe the m60's would be a well balanced compromise versus the 80's

my thinking is that I will save money by getting towers because I don't have to buy speaker stands (good rationing huh?) Ultimately I want towers because I can afford them. I have these crappy Bose cubes and have had enough of their high pitched screaming and muddy bass...

Hopefully I have the right set-up now!

That is going to be a killer system. The difference between that premium Axiom setup and the Bose is going to make your face hurt from smiling so much. Let us know how you make out.

steveo, i have the same set up you're considering in a 16x22 (approx) room with a cathedral ceiling, and it really fills this room at levels unacceptable to my wife at times; it's going to sound wonderful. i'll almost bet your ht vs music ratio changes once you hear the system.
