I have light colored curtains. Most of my watching is evening with no light. When there is light, I throw a blanket over the window. One of my next steps will be to replace the curtains with something that blocks light.

Here's a thought for you. When the daytime calibrator arrives, have the 2 of you move the TV into a darkened room. When he's done, move the TV back to where it was.

The VT also adds 96hz at 24p playback.

Waiting for the new tv's to hit the stores is painful.

It looks like one of the biggest differences between the VT50 and the GT50 is the VT50 has more options for calibration. It's also 4.6 inches wider than the GT50. I can barely make the GT50 fit.

I've been watching this thread for new Panasonic Plasma TV's. I'm still unsure whether to get a Panasonic GT50, a Samsung E7000, or even a non-edge lit LED-LCD. I've read a lot of the pros/cons of Plasma vs LED, etc. Someone at work has both a 50 inch Plasma and a 50 inch LED on his living room walls at home, and he much prefers the LED.

I made the big switch from LCD to Plasma. My Sony LCD was approaching 5 years old however it is still working fine. G.A.S. (gear acquisition syndrom) took over and I purchased a 65 inch Panasonic. Moved the Sony downstairs to the games room. I was considering an LED however the Plasma won over in the end. I don't think you can go wrong with either LED or Plasma.

I've read through the thread on Panasonic GT30. It took a firmware luminance fix called 2.1 to brighten it up enough to make it better looking in THX mode. Before this fix, THX was too dim. Most people seem to think it has superior Picture Quality to LCD/LED TV's.

There's still debate as to whether or not you need to give it a burn-in period by rotating through some slides that help the phosphors to burn in evenly for the first 100 hours of use.

and the debate will not end soon either.
i've read corresponcence from Pioneer that said they have nothing against someone doing a burn-in on a TV.
they were talking about plasma tv's.

i've seen myself on my Kuro that the phosphors are more prone to image retention during the first hundred hours; but there is not much difference.

also, image retention does no damage, contrary to image burn-in; there's also the fact that most TV's that have image burn-in have been used in stores as demos and some of them display the same fixed image 8 hours a day... the same can happen at home if one leaves a video game on pause for the night.

I'm looking to upgrade my 2 year old Samsung LCD 37 inch TV (of cheaper quality) to a 50 inch of better quality. My only limitations are it can't be any wider than 47 inches, and it can't cost more than $2,500. I want one capable of excellent 3D with as few artifacts and visual problems as possible. I will be using a Panasonic 310 blu-ray player that has 2 HDMI outputs. 1.4 to go directly to the TV, and a 1.3 to go to the receiver. Sound output from TV from antenna to receiver via optical connection. The room is fairly bright in the daytime, but I'll be working on the ability to darken it by installing blinds on a skylight that sits above the TV and installing black-out curtains. I have an excellent sound system, so I won't be using the TV's speakers. I want the best PQ that these restraints will allow. Probably be looking at Panasonic TC-P50GT50 (TC-P55VT50 too wide), Samsung PN51E7000, or an LED. Whichever one it is, I plan on a professional calibration. I wish more info was available. I get tired of playing this waiting game. If any calibrators have their opinion as to which would be best, I'd like to hear from you, either publicly in this forum or PM.

Since I've never had a plasma, I'd hate to buy one only to discover I thought it was too dim. But I don't want an LED if the plasma would work for me.
