Hello all happy axiom owners...

I'm am looking at purchasing some QS8 surrounds but had some questions concerning them...

First and foremost I will not have a timbre matched set of speakers as my main's and center channels are not of axiom origin...

For those of you interested I have the Ed Frias EFE T-22cf speakers, center channel (with titanium tweeters)

Some concerns I have with the QS8 that maybe someone here can field...

1) How does the titanium tweeter perform really ?

^ I mean in most cases especially with metal tweeters most companies just can't get them right so they are better off using soft dome. But when a titanium tweeter is correct, you'll hear instruments that sound just as real as if they are in the room with you

2) I've seen the specs but how low will the QS8's perform before the roll-off takes it toll ?

3) How well does these speakers perform when the back reflecting wall is close to one and further away to the other due to a S-shaped wall ?

Imagine this

-------
. . . .
| . . . . |-------------| <-- Back reflecting wall
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
spk . . . . . . . . . . . . . spk
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

4) Anybody ever compared the QS8's to the energy veritas 2.0r (3 times the price of this speaker) or the psb IMAGE 10S (more close to this cost of this speaker) or the paradigm ADP 470 or some version thereof ?

Thx,
Halo

Also I know axiom offers a 30day return policy but I was curious if they do trade-ins (existing axiom speakers) on newer version axiom speakers?

Obviously your still gonna have to shell out $$$ for the newer stuff but better than nothing...

I think alot of how you are going to use the QS8's will determine how much you would like them. In my HT system they are barely noticeable, you just hear the sounds. With the 2 radiating faces the 'S' wall should be of no concern. The timbre matching shouldn't be a real concern in an HT system as the sounds are so varied from front to back, its ususally hard to detect a difference. If the system is for more music ie SACD or DVD-A then the timbre matching would be more important. The Tweeter is the same one that is in all the rest of the speaker line up, now that the QS4 has it also. I would beleive it to be of great quality considering what everyone says about the speaker line up. With my system my wife says that when she closes her eyes she would swear the band is right in the room with us. Hope this helps.

That whole "S wall" thing is interesting. I'm tempted to say it doesn't matter, that's how well the QS8s diffuse the sound, but I just don't know. Get to the home page and email Alan directly. I thing the cavalry is needed for the straight skinny on this one.

It doesn't appear to me that the rear wall would have any significant effect - maybe a slight loss of volume on the left side due to the lack of wall immediately behind.

With the new baby, I went ahead and wall mounted my QS8s 8' high (9' ceilings), 5' behind the LP, and 10' to either side of the LP. Previously, they were on stands that I would position a few feet behind the LP, about ear level and much closer to the LP. The result is a significant decrease in the diffuse, enveloping effect created by the dipole design; an increase in the surround spkr volume levels; and a huge increase in the convenience factor.

I forgot your question, but the QS8s are awesome when optimally placed and still pretty damned impressive in botched up placements like mine.

my room is 13x14 w/cathedral ceiling. in regards to listening position, i was going to mount my QS8s directly to the left and right of the couch and ~ 4ft off the ground. there is a gap above 4 feet that opens into the kitchen and the next lowest mountable position would be ~9ft off the ground, but i'll have to buy new cable (err). will the 4ft position be adequate? will the sound be acceptable when these speakers are placed directly to the left/right, or should they be placed slightly in front or behind the listening position?

in other words, i'm not ready to start drilling yet.

note - i have pictures if anyone wants me to e-mail them

Bring on the pictures. It'll give us a better idea. If you don't know how to post pictures, have a look at the FAQ.
