Sweet, looks like Christmas might have come early this year for you.

I guess my luck wasn't that good. I got turned down for a credit card, again. Will have to try again next year.

Only 1 1/2 hours before my TV calibrator gets here.

You can't tell I'm a little excited though, can you?

Great, but don't they charge time and a half on Sundays?

It took 4 hours. The jury is still out on whether I like it. He's a THX guy. Says he can do ISF, but it takes much longer, and THX is so close you can't tell the difference.

He calibrated.
1) THX Cinema. (To me, the blacks look a bit too black with not enough detail. Seems the overall picture should be brighter, but I've read that's what most people think when viewing a calibrated picture for the first time.)
2) THX Bright Room (Will have to evaluate later).
3) THX 3D Cinema. (Will have to evaluate later).

With the blacks this black, there is a strong feeling of contrast in the video. Almost too much contrast. Other than that, the colors are beautiful.

Well. That's my first impression. My Denon receiver should be arriving sometime today.

Edit: He used an older version of Calman (he has the newest version, but doesn't like it), and a meter with a narrow beam that was set about 3 feet away from screen, and it works with 3D glasses.)

if you'd like to check on the brightness setting (black level), then put the monitor on an unused input, get real close to the screen and try this;

when the setting is good, if you increase brightness by 1 notch, then the image will be brighter; if you decrease brightness by 1 notch, then the image will not change brightness, it will not get any darker. this is the optimum setting.

just don't forget to put the control back to where it was.

this has to be done in the same room lighting condition that the monitor was adjusted on.
what you'll see, by getting close to the monitor, is a dark gray image and some noise on the screen.

I'll try that sometime today. So, if I put it in the mode that he calibrated (THX Cinema), then change the input to HDMI 3 that's not being used. Then try changing the brightness one notch up, and one notch down, from where it originally was. I hope when I do this that the mode is still in the one he calibrated.

On thing I noticed about this TV (all others probably similar), is the blue was set too high. Blue causes the screen to look artificially brighter. When you put it on Vivid mode, the blue is off the charts.

That probably explains why the screen now looks dimmer. The colors are balanced instead of some artificial coloring, just to make it look brighter.

He got, 41 lumins (I think), with either cinima, or bright room, I don't remember which.

Before calibration, using the 3D glasses, THX 3D lumins was about 4, and Vivid was about 6. Those glasses really cut the light.

But after calibration, with 3D glasses, THX 3D had 12 lumins.
