Damn...two days after I got my M60 and my Denon 1601 went.
I was listening for about 1 1/2 hrs prior and the receiver turned off. I turned on again and I hear a pop. In matter of minutes I can smell burning wires and smoke comes out.(Not a good sign). Anyone here experienced a similar situation?

I called Axiom about it if the problem was the speaker but the rep said the 1601 should be able to handle it no problem.(Oh well time to get a new one)

What is a good Receiver for the M60ti? I'm slowly building my HT. Any Recommendations?

Ps. My warranty is expired.

Thanks

I know that I've been looking at the Denon 3803 (or 3805 coming soon). I think people will also note the Yamaha RX-V2400 (and RX-V1400) and H/K AVR 630 (and 7200) for similar prices. Not sure what your price point is though.

The only additions I would make are the Denon 1804 or 2803 if there is a budget involved.

My budget is $550 to $600. I was thinking of getting the Yamaha RXV1400 but it retails for $800. But I can get it on ebay for $550 plus shipping. I don't know if those will match the M60's.

Thats my biggest concern right now. I ask the Axiom Rep this morning and he said the speaker should be fine. I have no other way of testing it unless I get another Receiver. I hope to god its ok.

I will eventually open up the Denon and do some diagnostics.

that's almost unbelievable. Were you playing it at an extremely loud volume?

I have a 1602 and I run VP150, QS8's and M80's (all 6 ohm or below) and have had no problems at all. Did you check if the wiring was done right? Anything? It could just be bad timing for your denon to burn out

Yea, I checked everything connections and such. I think I got a lemon Denon. Eight months after I purchased it; I had to get it fix under warranty. It had the same problem as well. Before I was only running the Energy Take5+1 so I know its the receiver.

Yikes is right!

I'm running M60's on a Denon 1804 and feel fully self-actualized. No problems at all, regardless of material or volume. It was the right feature set and price for me.

People seem to like the HK's in that price bracket. AVR330 I think.

Check out the Onkyo SR-701. It is THX certified with pre outs and you can get one for under six hundred $ at j and R dot com. I have two Onkyo's, one I've had for like 4 years. No problems yet.

Player8, I cannnot speak to the 701 but I have the onkyo 601 and it has been great for me (vp150, m22s, qs8s).
Also, Audioholics has a review of it driving M80s here

Theres a great review of the Onkyo 601 at adioholics.com. I would go with the Onkyo 701 becuse of the pre outs. You will be able to add a amp if you ever need more power in the future plus the processor is THX certifed. I don't think you will be able to find a better deal for under six hundred dollars. I am using the Onkyo SR-700 (100watts x 6) in a very large room and have no complaints.

I bought it at a Local Hifi Store. Is that too expensive?

No, I'm thinking that that price is way less than I thought you could get it for.
