My point is if you don't buy decent gear then you might as well send you're money to me...try onecall for a closeout on a good receiver.thats were I would start first. If you don't start out with a good receiver or amp you won't be happy with the speakers.I picked up an Onkyo thx select receiver with all the goodies from them for 600.00 bucks on closeout a while back.you can also check out ebay for used gear.you take a risk buying used stuff but it might pay off.other than that I would save for the good stuff.if you buy cheap gear then it 's like one step forward, three steps back.

Piers:

Talk to Marc at Audioshop about a package with the Yamaha RXV-430 and a pair of Axiom M2's. You should be able to get the package pretty close to your price range.

The M2's are a great pair of bookshelves and a lot cheaper than the larger and more popular M3's. Axiom is changing the twweter in this speaker and they are blowing the old ones out. Marc has them on for $199 CDN.

The Yamaha RXV-430 is exactly the same chassis/power output as the 530, 630, 730, its just missing a few features. I believe the 430 lists for $499.

I think this setup is a pretty good starting point for quality home theater,

Piers

have you made a decision yet?

you could always look for a used amp, and get a pair of M3's. Then, when you can afford it, get a real good amp.
