Now that a room has cleared itself, been busy setting up some vintage gear. Doesn't sound all that bad, but compared to the M22's (of course) there's an obvious lack of midrange freq and that equates to a loss of overall smoothness. A little disappointed with the vinyl sound, just too dry and impersonal for my taste...maybe a upgraded cartridge will change that. the pioneers were bought in Japan 1978 along with the Sanusis. Still have the receipts.

Pioneer SX-850 SS Receiver
Pioneer PL-550 TT
Sony CDP-D245 CD player (not vintage but a solid piece)
JVC SEA-33 Graphic Equalizer
Mit DVD player (gotta go some place)
Optimus Center -
O'Sullivan glass-panel rack
Pair of Sansui SP-5500X speakers

Rich, how old are those Sansui speakers? I still have my set from about 1980... I think they're called S55-C's, big boxy three-ways with 12" woofers and an adjustable tweeter.

The SP-5500X were purchased in 1978, Yokouska, Japan. Paid $95.00 each. These too have a 12" woofer with 2, 4" mid woofers, horn tweeter and super tweeter. Considering their age and the miles they have traveled, the overall sound is rather good, but with a heavy dose of EQ. SPL level can be ear-bleeding. Enjoyed "Best of Sade" CD and my ears settled in quite nicely...and that is to say their output is not fatuiging as one might think.

I love vintage speakers, my Pioneer's are still going strong and sound great when I did a comparison test, got them back in the early 80's.

SirQuack - those pioneers are really in great shape. Would love to have a listen. I most certainly appreciate the care you've given them. It's a great day to sit back and listen to some vinyl and relax.
