Are these the original, un-digified versions? There's only so much money I can throw at Lucas in one lifetime...

Peter - I think they are the "new" ones that were re-released to theatres a while back. I read a news release that asked the same question, and the reply from Lucas' PR person was something to the effect of "the official version of the artist's creative expression is contained in the recent theatrical release" or some such blather.

I'll probably bite, since I never bought the VHS tapes.

Okay, this is awesome. HOWEVER... why'd they have to go and spoil it by telling people the major points of each movie?! You can't assume everyone has seen "Empire" before.

What a bunch of jerks!

I'm sure they used the same excuse when Spielberg re-released ET...

Yes, they are the 're-leased' versions. So we will see a CGI Jabba, Greedo will shoot first, and there has been an added dance scene in jabba's palace. Not to mention various other 'enhancements'. I'm not excited by the changes, but A New Hope was the very first movie I ever saw (I was 5 in 77), it was also the first movie I saw more than once in the theater. Needless to say it had a significant role in my childhood and I will be purchasing this set when it comes out. Yes, I am George's B$&ch.

I was wondering when would be the right time to show these to my first born son (who is now 3 1/2 and by the time of release will be a few days away from 4). Do you think 5 years old in the theater equals 4 years old in the HT?

Don't feel too bad all of you...

I was one of those who saw "A New Hope" into double digits when it was first released.

I have the original dubs of the original releases on VHS as well as the "Special Editions" with CGI Jabba, et al...

Will I be getting these when they come out on DVD? Yep...

Yes, too bad they are not the "original releases" but in this day and time, having any version is better than none...and yes I was on the list of the petition to Lucas to release the original versions...matte boxes, disappearing Tie Fighters and all...you can only do so much...

May the Force be with you...

I own the org 3 movies on VHS in 4:3 AND 16:9 (don't ask), as well as the re-leased ones in 16:9. (each in those fancy boxed sets)

I loved Star Wars... but the last two movies sucked so badly (ESP Ep2!!! GAH!) that I am SO resisting giving any money to that looser Lucas.

/rant off

What I would like to see is a bundle that has the first 3 movies in both versions. That would be neato IMO.

Total agreement here...actually that would be preferred to what they are releasing now.
