Just a shot in the dark…. (wonder how accurate this could be!!)

Bryston vs Axiom

A1 @ $3250 vs M100 @ $2690
A2 @ $2395 vs M80 @ $1500
A3 @ $1995 vs M60 @ $1150
A mini @ $1200 vs M22 @ $ 518

my bestimate guess is soon you will see a major price increase on all axiom products (not priced the same as bryston but shy of a couple of hundred bucks)

FYI; I saw in a past thead Ian saying that the M80s were under priced

My guess is the new line is still being made to different specifications under the direction of James Tanner. I doubt either James or Ian would settle for simply attaching a new name to an existing product.

While I do expect a price increase from Axiom due to the recent comment by Ian that M80s are currently underpriced, I don't think it will be a "major" one.

But yes, in unrelated news, the sky is falling.

Comparing the 2 speakers (m100's & a1's) same tweeters, same mids, same 6.5 bass, cabs seem the same ... the only thing I can think that would justify that kind of price difference is an upgragable external crossover board like in the T series... on an other note woulnd't you expect that being involved with all the speakers for Big brand ''high end'' name have an impact on your existing line of speakers... i'm pretty sure that some increases are comming soon...

Come to think of it, aside from the obvious physical similarities, one could say that the Bryston is a somewhat more aesthetically fancier cabinet so if one was to order any of the comparable Axiom models and upgrade to one of the customized wood designs then even now that would close the gap on the price between the two companies.

I absolutely disagree with two hypotheses presented here.

First, you cannot discern just by looking at the drivers that they are same.

Second, there is no compelling reason for Axiom and Bryston to price their products competitively with one another.

Wasn't there a comment from Ian somewhere that said all the drivers in the Bryston Model "T" were made by Axiom? The tweeters and midrange were essentially stock but the woofers were based on one from the Axiom subwoofer line, as the design goal was that they be full range.

It sure appears that the new 6.5" woofer that Axiom has produced is based on one they were working on for the Bryston Model A line. This could also explain the longer than expected rollout for the LFR upgrade, as Ian and Andrew were busy working with Bryston on the Model A line. I think overall this will be beneficial as we'll hopefully continue to see some trickle down into Axiom's regular (and more affordable) lineup!

The A1 from Bryston is very similar to M100. For the extra cost you get the addition of vertical bracing on top of the seven horizontal window braces, the Bryston 20 year warranty, the Bryston black drivers, and the convenience of having them available at your local Bryston dealer. The A2 and A3 have a heavy-duty version of the woofers used in the M80s and M60s on top of the other features above. We will be introducing versions of the M60 and M80 with these drivers later this year.

The Mini A is not similar to the M22 as it is a larger overall speaker and a 6.5” three-way.

With the advent of the Model T there seemed to be a place in the Bryston line for a physically smaller range of towers and bookshelf speakers. Given that the whole project began three years ago because James at Bryston was a big fan of the M80 it seemed sensible to make a Brystonized version of the M60, M80, and M100 as the next logical progression in the line.

Ian, Will the Vp line also benefit from the new 6.5 woofers?

Yes, we will make a high powered version of the VP160 and VP180.
