On the movies I've watched so far since setting up my system last week there have been some scenes where I've noticed what sounds like distortion from the center channel.

It sounds like the voice is breaking up very slightly during some parts of the dialog and seems to come evenly from the speaker (not just one tweeter or woofer). The most obvious one that comes to mind was The Replacements since that is the last movie we watched. Mostly during parts of Gene Hackmans dialog, but during the bar scene where they announce that Keanu is getting the boot I did go back and play the scene on A-B repeat and it always sounded exactly the same, with "distortion" in exactly the same spots.

I am assuming that this noise is actually on the DVD and I just haven't heard it before the Axioms. As I said it is very slight and barely noticeable (my g/f couldn't hear it, even when I played one section over and over), but I haven't heard anything like it from any of the other channels.

Any thoughts from the gurus of the Axiom boards?

David

My first suggestion would be to play the disk on a friend's system and see if you can hear it. The fact that it's a specific section of a specific disk would lead me to think it was the dvd. Are you running 6 channels from the dvd player? Or is your reciever decoding it? What volume levels is it audible at? The axioms do have a way of revealing flaws in recordings

Given the reproducibility, I wouldn't chalk it up to the cables. I would say it's either the disk or the decoding.

The receiver (Denon 3805) is decoding it. I played around with some audio, running in 7.1 ProLogicIIx, to see if I could reproduce the same "distortion" from the center channel. I used fairly basic and heavy vocal material like Morphine, but couldn't hear it.

I'm really thinking it's on the DVD. Trying not to watch too many movies right now because I am waiting for the SVS sub to arrive (my current 2x12" Mepmhis car subs in bandpass box with 500w amp is feeling embarassingly deficient sitting next to those Axioms).

I'll stick in LOTR:Fellowship tonight and see if it's present during the opening monologue.

It's the DVD. I heard the same thing on the Two Towers DVD. A part of the dialogue from Gibli was distorted. I believe it was chapter 11. I thought the tweeters were blown. I turned the volume down really low and I still heard it. That told me it's the DVD. It also does the very same thing on my brothers Paradigms. I was sooooo relieved that it wasn't the VP150.
