I'm not sure what will make a better 5.1 set-up for my QS8 surrounds - rear side walls, or rear corner walls? I've attached an image of the layout options and would greatly appreciate advice. My thinking is the corner walls will create a nice rear sound field, although I'm concerned to have the QS8's directly firing towards the listening positions - so maybe the side walls will be better... Many thanks!! Image link: http://postimg.org/image/8rgmtzbip/

Either location would work fine as the QS8s are very forgiving of placement.

Half of communication is listening. You can't listen with your mouth.

Ed, welcome to Axiom. Since in a 5.1 set-up there are no back surround speakers, it's better to set the side surrounds slightly(a foot or two)farther back than directly to the side. This lends a little "phantom" back surround effect. Your back of the room is shaped a bit unusually, but placing the QS8s farther back on the corner walls should be a bit better. Neither way would seem to be more "directly" firing than the other.
You might try some temporary placement in each position to compare the difference, if any.
