I just moved into a home where the previous owners left a mount plate on the wall above the fire place. They took the rest of the mount kit with them when they moved out.

My question is, do I have to remove that mount plate and install a new one if I want to mount my TV on the wall in the same place? Or can I just buy a new mount kit and the parts will work with what they have left in place?

I guess my question is, are there standard sizes for the mount plates, or is everything different from each manufacturer?

Thanks,
mpethe

From what i have seen and installed, manufacturers dont make interchangable parts when it comes to mounts and brackets. The mounting hole pattern on the back of the tv is about all the cooperation they came up with. There are even variations in a single manufacturers lineup.....

You will likely have to remove it and install a new mount backplate when you get your new mount. Best scenario is to find out what it was and buy the same one so you dont have to make new holes or drill new anchors. Good luck! smile
