It's also one of those movies that everyone should see, and then when you finally do, it's not as big of a deal as you were expecting. Don't get me wrong, it's good - but just don't hype it too much, or you'll be let down.

For me, Scorsese has yet to match 'Raging Bull'. Speaking of Raging Bull, when the hell are we going to get a nice remastered, special edition, 2 disc dvd set of that classic picture?

Sorry. I pulled the number out of my a$$. What's really strange though, is that Jake LaMotta (the boxer in Raging Bull) was born on July 10th.

I didn't even know what the movie was about until just now.

I'll second the "Taxi Driver" comment - much overrated. Same goes for "Apocalypse Now".

I agree. Aside from Robert Duvall's luminescent role, Apocalypse Now is mostly tedious. That goes double for Redux, which was actually so dull in places that I wanted to scream. Taxi Driver has a great performance by DeNiro, but I didn't like the movie.

I also don't like Raging Bull. Again, great acting performance, but every character in the movie is loathsome and without any redeeming qualities. I did not enjoy watching this movie in the least.

I needed to watch 'Raging Bull' three times before I "got" it. The third time I cried. (OK, not streaming tears, but my eyes did well up.)

Jake LaMotta is not a likable character. In fact he's despicable. The story is about how this awful man had everything he could possibly want out of life and because he was such a prick he lost it all. The worst part is in the end he realizes it all. It's really an amazing movie.

Another vastly overrated movie: The Breakfast Club. Go ahead. Watch it again. It's really, really dull. And awful. For that matter, so's Spaceballs. Not quite in the same league as the other movies mentioned, but what the heck...

I love Dr. Strangelove. "You can't fight in here, it's the war room!"
