Last tweak ?, is it a good idea to use ProGold or any similar protectant on cable ends and jacks?

Does oxidation really present a problem to connectors and jacks?

It certainly won't hurt anything, and at the least it will help keep your connectors looking shiny. Most oxidation occurs on exposed surfaces, not on the parts of the jacks and connectors that are in contact. So if you get it, you can apply it once and not worry about reapplying it for a long time.

I've seen several random posts over time (sorry, I don't know who to give any credit to) that indicates this, and other similar products is a goodanti-oxidant protection. I've also seen rebuttals that that some folks use longer speaker wire with bare wire connections and every 9-12 months, they just cut a few inches off to get rid of that rascally oxidation.

Tune, as Peter indicated, the portions of the connection which are actually in contact with each other(the only part that matters)are at least partially sealed against oxidation. Any that does occur can either be trimmed off or cleaned off with a mild abrasive, even a pencil eraser.

What's in it? How long does it stay wet? What's it made of that is a good conductor, seals out oxygen and won't act as an anode for ionization?

Um. I hope it's conductive... Otherwise you would hear the sweet, sweet sounds of silence.

Now I'm really confused... it removes oxidation from gold, silver, rhodium, etc... so it's a solvent then, which wouldn't prevent oxidation, it would just be used to treat oxidation after it occured - but elsewhere it's suggested for use on new connectors, it can't seal the wire from oxidation (or else it would have to be conductive itself).

Hmm... I'll say tinning the ends of your wires with good electronics solder (good, not Mighty ProMedia XLP 99.999999999% pure silver solder) would be a better bet.
