I'm in the process of redesigning my HT, and will be getting a Samsung DLP. Since its only 17" deep, I was wondering how close the speakers can be to the wall and have the ports still breath? I'm currently using 22s, though will probably invest in a pair of 50's or 60's down the road. How much room do those need to breath?
Thanks

R1, looked at solely from the standpoint of breathing room for the rear ports, 3-4" should be enough. I've seen a rule suggested of twice the diameter of the port, but this probably implies precision in something which isn't precise. A general rule as to positioning is to have the woofer cones at dissimilar distances from the three nearest room boundaries(i.e. floor and two nearest walls).
