JohnK is right. As I tried to figure out your hookup, it occurred to me you might be running a low-level LFE cable to the sub in addition to the high-level (speaker) cables, which you should not do. As JohnK points out, one low-level cable from the "Subwoofer Out" jack should be all you need. Use one or the other. But I'm still perplexed.. .

I got a manual for that unit at Sony Honolulu...
Waiting for a mailing address to send it to him....

It appears that there are some functions that can only be accessed thru the remote (such as the phase setting for the sub) - and since freesey doesn't have that particular remote unit, he may not ever be able to use all the functions. But looking at the schematic in the manual, it "appears" that he has it connected properly. His problem could be something mechanical/electronic with the unit - and not how it is hooked up. But I can't be sure. There is not very much info on the operation of the sub. But the stereo/multi channel power amplifier for the unit is defintely in the sub enclosure.
