Here's my situation. I currently own a pair of M3Ti's as my mains, and a VP100 centre. I have a DIY sub, and am using cheap bookshelves as temporary rears.

I would like to purchase a pair of Axioms to complete my system (for the time being). I am considering the following options:

1. Another pair of M3Ti's
2. A pair of M22Ti's for my mains, and cycle my M3Ti's to the rear
3. A pair of floorstanders (either M50's or M60's) and cycle the M3Ti's to the rear

Obviously, these options are listed in order of increasing cost. I am leaning towards option 2, but am interested in arguments for options 1 and 3. I would have to hear very convincing arguments for option 3, but I am willing to stretch my budget. I would (of course) do some heavy auditioning before coming to a final decision. My listening preferences are roughly 70% music, 30% movies.

Any comments?

Thanks,

-Nick

If you are happy with your current subwoofer, then my suggestion is to keep the M3s as your fronts, and pick up QS4s for the rear. They are designed for that purpose, and would be much more forgiving in terms of placement than a direct radiating speaker, especially if you are in a small to average size room. Good luck

Egads! I completely forgot about the QS4's! Indeed that is another option to consider. Thanks for the reminder!

If you're happy with M3s in the front (i.e., they're loud enough), you should probably get a pair of QS-4's. If the M3s don't fill the room enough, think about the M22s or M40s.

Hi Nick,

As an unabashed enthusiast of the M22ti's superbly smooth and linear midrange, and its excellent imaging and soundstage (vs. the M3ti's), I'd suggest going for option #2. You'd likely prefer QS4s as surrounds, but in the interim you could use M3ti's. If you like the M3ti's tonal balance, perhaps you should remain loyal to them in the front, but once you hear the M22ti's clarity, the M3ti's seem somewhat dull and recessed.
