I have a complete Axiom system on order and have requested it be shipped Aug. 30th so that I can completed my HT. (I've got M60's Vp150 and a pair of Qs8's coming.) My question is if I am going to set up two rows of seating where should the Qs8's be placed? Just behind the first row and slightly ahead of the back row? I'm running wires and bracing for the speakers now and need some help.
Thanks in advance.

being selfish, i would place them in an optimal position to the 'best' listening position(which is where i would sit). i would think that due to the quadpolar design of the QS8's, placing them just behind the front, and just in front of the rear row will be fine. if you are really concerned for the listening pleasure of the people on the rear, then place them just behind that last row..to be honest, its really not something you probably need to fret over. the QS8 does such a great job of dispersing the sound evenly, that it will do well in almost any position.

your original idea will most likely work best. just to the rear of the front row.. just make sure thats where you sit

Greetings,
Not to hijack the thread, but this is an additional question to your topic...
I know the optimum height on surround speaker placement is at least 6' off the ground, but if my sides are restricted to only 5', should I use the same height on the rear surrounds or go to 6' on the back on 5' on the sides?

i think the 'optimum' position is not necessarily 6ft off the ground, but rather, just a little above and behind the listening position. about 1ft to 2 ft i think is best. due to wall limitations, i had to put my QS8's at 7 feet, which is about 3 feet above the listening position.. but they sound fine.. no probs at all.. goes back to the whole dispersion idea.. the QS8's just sound good almost anywhere.

and to answer your question.. i dont know for sure, but every HT room i have ever seen, had all the speakers at the same height.. so i would think if you put the surrounds at 5 feet, the rears should be the same..

i am just guessing here, so you might wanna get more advice.

Ya know, Atom (I'm in a suburb of Cleveland, by the way), that's an interesting question. Since the Axiom FAQ says:

"Ideally, surround speakers should be.....slightly forward or rearwards of the listening area if you wish. Axiom's Quadpolar surrounds are especially versatile and can yield excellent performance with stand or wall-mounting to the rear as well as at side locations."

I'd say your proposed positioning would work fine. However, depending on how far behind the first row the QS8s would be, you might also consider putting them just behind the second row. The word "slightly" in the above is a frustratingly ambiguous term. To be sure, you might give Axiom a call. They'll be glad to help.

Bob. From the same FAQ, it says:

"Ideally, surround speakers should be.....from one to six feet higher than seated listeners' ears,....

So, the optimum position is NOT 6 feet off the ground, but within the stated range above the ears. Whatever height you place them, I'd think placing them at the same height is a good idea. You can be fairly flexible with your placement, though.

Due to room constraints (of an entryway) and an unually high ceiling, my QS8s are 9 feet off the ground and they sound great. Think movie theaters...they have their surrounds quite a bit higher than 6 feet. I think they'll do a great job for you at just about any height. But if you have a buddy that's willing to hold one for you and move it around while you sit in the sweet spot to see what sounds best...then kudos!

Thanks for the info guys.

Bob per your question. I plan on mounting my rears slightly higher than my surrounds and angling them down towards the listener. I was told aiming them directly at the fronts could cause reflections (From the screen) and some wave cancellation with your front and centers speakers.
