Had these for a while, but just recently the right channel when it gets to a certain level it makes the popping rattle noise?i have been driving them with a AMC integrated rated for 45 watts @8ohms.these should be easy speakers to drive?do you think i underpowered them, especially with lord of the rings, and other movies?the music i listen to is not mellow but i have been watching more movies now than when i first got these.could this be the reason underpowered.I dont have a sub yet, slowly trying to put my little home theater together.please any response, suggestions,or thoughts? Thanks

Prox, if it's only in the right speaker, the first step would be to switch the speakers to see if a problem has developed in one. While "rattle" isn't the way that I'd describe the sound, it's possible that the amp is clipping on some extremely loud sound in the right channel. I'd think though that your amp should be fine except in a very large room at very high volume.

does the popping come only during bass scenes? and do you have the bass boosted? sometimes a driver will pop when its driven beyond its limits. how loud were you listening? its also possible the driver is defective, in which case axiom would ship you a new one.

Axiom will ask you to tighten the driver. See my post on the VP150 under Technical Questions. Even though you don't have a sub have you tried playing with bass management? Try setting the speakers to "small" at 80 Hz. The M22 is very sensitive and shouldn't be clipping your amp. Do you hear distortion at your listening level? Or is it just popping?

You might also want test by removing the driver to see if the leads on the driver are too long. If so this will cause the cone to make contact with leads, thus making that "popping" sound.

Good Luck!

thanks for the comments,i read the center channel post about the long leads, will check that out before i try to tighten down the woofers a bit.it does happen during the lower bass freq.at least as low as the speaker can do,i did not have any bass adjustment turned up that high just a bit past the middle.and i just hooked up a rotel thx pre-amp maybe i can adjust the front by pass switch see if that helps.the speaker just started doing this the last 2-3 weeks even before i hooked up the pre-amp.will try these things and let you guys know how they work out, hopefully it its the leads or the woofer just a little loose. Thanks

i messed around tonight, first tightened drivers a bit, then listened.a little better but was more of a crackle instead of a popping type sound, maybe because i got just a bit more volume before i could hear it.took out each woofer one at a time checked the clips, are the leads causing the problem in th center channel inside the speaker frame?i got an old NAD integrated from someone a few days ago maybe thinking my right channel was going bad,but unless i have 2 bad right channels in a row.did notice it sounded like it was just coming from the top woofer.could be the woofer just failed?it would be nice just to send a woofer in instead of the whole speaker,i do have box but i bought these off audiogon.will probably just give them a ring this week.bummed out i want to watch ROTK with at least a little volume, the speakers would and should sound awesome

It's the two wires coming from the coil to the termination points on the basket itself. Yes, it would be the wires inside the speaker frame.
